Pole Vault
Pole vaulting, also known as pole jumping, is a track and field event in which an athlete uses a long and flexible pole, usually made from fiberglass or carbon fiber, as an aid to jump over a bar. Pole jumping competitions were known to the Mycenaean Greeks, Minoan Greeks and Celts. It has been a full medal event at the Olympic Games since 1896 for men and since 2000 for women. It is typically classified as one of the four major jumping events in athletics, alongside the high jump, long jump and triple jump. It is unusual among track and field sports in that it requires a significant amount of specialised equipment in order to participate, even at a basic level. Timothy Mack
Timothy "Tim" Mack (born September 15, 1972) is an American pole vaulter who won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics. Biography Timothy Mack was born on September 15, 1972, in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland. He then attended Malone College and the University of Tennessee where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees. While at Tennessee, he was the 1995 SEC indoor pole vault champion clearing 5.50 meters. In the same year he won the NCAA Indoor title, clearing 5.60 meters. He finished 7th at the NCAA outdoor championships clearing 5.30 meters. In 2000, Mack competed at the US Olympic Trials, finishing 8th with a vault of 5.53 meters. Piotr Buciarski (born 22 November 1975 in Warsaw, Poland) is a retired Danish pole vaulter of Polish descent. His personal best jump is 5.75 metres, achieved in April 2002 in Fort-de-France. Rens Blom
Rens Blom (born 1 March 1977) is a Dutch retired athlete competing in pole vault. Life Blom was born in Munstergeleen. He achieved a vault of 5.75 as early as in 2000, but five years passed without much further progress. However, on 8 June 2004 in Zaragoza, he set the Dutch record with 5.81. In 2005, he consolidated his position by clearing 5.80 early in May. At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, he once again achieved 5.80 and won the gold medal. It was the first Dutch gold medal at a World Championship. In addition, Blom has won five national championships and four national indoor championships. The year 2006 turned out to be a frustrating year for Blom, full of bad luck and injuries. Daniel "Danny" Ecker (born 21 July 1977 in Leverkusen) is a former German athlete competing in the pole vault. Biography His current personal best is 5.93 metres, but through his indoor best performance of 6.00 metres he has a place in the so-called 6 metres club. 5.93 ranks him fourth among German pole vaulters, behind Tim Lobinger, Andrei Tivontchik and Michael Stolle.
