2001 Women's Hockey Junior World Cup
The 2001 Women's Hockey Junior World Cup was the 4th edition of the Women's Hockey Junior World Cup. It was held from May 14 to May 26, 2001 in the CeNARD, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. South Korea won the tournament for the first time after defeating Argentina 4–3 in a penalty shoot-out following a 2–2 draw in the final. Defending champions the Netherlands lost the third-place match to Australia 2–0. Qualification Each continental federation received a number of quotas depending on the FIH World Rankings for teams qualified through their junior continental championships. Amanda Jane Hooper (née Christie, 1980 – 22 February 2011) was a female professional field hockey player from New Zealand. She died in one of the office buildings that collapsed in the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake at age 30. Amanda Christie was born in Southland in 1980 and grew up in Waikaia on her family's farm. She was head girl at Gore High School in 1998; her motivation for success stemmed from her father's death four years earlier. She was married to Richard Hooper and had two girls with him who at the time of her death were two and four years old. She was a member of the national women's squad '' The Black Sticks'' from 2001 to 2003, with a total of 40 caps. In 2003, she was nominated for World Junior Player of the Year. Elizabeth Jane Igasan (now Horlock; born 16 September 1982) is a New Zealand field hockey player who was captain of the national team and a participant in the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. Early life Igasan was born in Whangārei and attended Whangārei Girls' High School and Rangitoto College. She grew up with her mother, two sisters, Connie and Mary-Anne, and a brother, James. Her parents separated when she was four years' old. Field hockey Igasan is a penalty corner specialist and defender, and plays for North Harbour in the New Zealand Hockey League.
