2001 Pasay Local Elections
Local elections were held in Pasay on May 14, 2001, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the representative for the lone district, and the councilors, six of them in the two districts of the city. Background Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad sought his first full term as mayor of the city. He was challenged by Vice Mayor Gregorio "Greg" Alcera, and former security aide of the late Mayor Pablo Cuneta, retired police Ricardo "Ding" Santos. Vice Mayor Gregorio "Greg" Alcera ran as Mayor. Wenceslao Trinidad
Wenceslao "Peewee" Bayona Trinidad (August 18, 1933 – March 4, 2016) was a Filipinos, Filipino lawyer who served as the Mayor of Pasay from April 2000 up to June 2010. He previously served as a member of the Pasay City Council from 1963 to 1967. Background Wenceslao "Peewee" B. Trinidad was born on August 18, 1933 in Pasay. Trinidad started his political career when he was elected as councilor in 1964. He was elected three times for the same post. He was elected as a Vice Mayor from 1980 to 1986 and from 1992 to 1997. Justo Justo
Justo Justo (September 21, 1941 – May 18, 2012) was a Filipino columnist and Pasay city councilor. He was known as a flamboyant AIDS activist. Early life Panfilo C. Justo, widely known as Justo C. Justo or simply JJ, came from a poor family in the sitio of Manlumay, Leyte. He was born to Francisco Justo Sr. and Ma. Lourdes Milagros Cagoco on September 21, 1941. JJ sold local delicacies to support his elementary education. As a consistent honor student he graduated as valedictorian of the Barangay Palarao Elementary School. His father wanted him to become a lawyer, but after his early death JJ had to take care of his younger brother Francisco Jr. (Frank) and sister Edith. Jovito Claudio
Jovito O. Claudio (June 15, 1927 – December 16, 2009) was the Mayor of Pasay from 1968 to 1971, and again from 1998 to 2000. Early life and career Claudio was born in C. Jose Street in Malibay, Pasay on June 15, 1927. Claudio finished Medicine in University of Santo Tomas in 1954, and finished medical bar examination at the same year. His political career started in 1959 when he was elected as top councilor. Four years later, he ran a Vice Mayor and won in a landslide victory. Claudio won the Pasay congressional race in 1992, beating mayor Pablo Cuneta's son Arding. Claudio successfully defended his congressional seat in 1995. Claudio was elected mayor in 1998. A year later, Claudio suffered a major stroke.
