2001 Australian Open – Women's Doubles
Serena and Venus Williams defeated Lindsay Davenport and Corina Morariu in the final, 6–2, 4–6, 6–4 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2001 Australian Open. It was the Williams sisters' fourth major doubles title, and they completed the career Golden Slam in doubles with the win. Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs were the defending champions, but lost in the first round to Martina Hingis and Monica Seles. Serena Jameka Williams (born September 26, 1981) is an American inactive professional tennis player. Considered among the greatest tennis players of all time, she was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Sandrine Testud (born 3 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from France. Career Testud broke into top 20 singles rankings in July 1997. On February 7, 2000, she became the sixth Frenchwoman after Françoise Dürr, Mary Pierce, Nathalie Tauziat, Amélie Mauresmo and Julie Halard to break into the top 10 in the singles rankings. This marked the first time France had four women ranked in the singles top 10 simultaneously (Mary Pierce at No. 5, Nathalie Tauziat at No. 6, Julie Halard at No. 8 and Testud at No. 9). Kimberly Po (born October 20, 1971) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. In her career, she won the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon in 2000, partnering Donald Johnson. She also was a runner-up at the US Open in women's doubles in 2001, partnering Nathalie Tauziat, as well as at the 1999 US Open in mixed doubles, with Johnson. Po won six top-level doubles titles. Irina Gennadyevna Selyutina (Ирина Геннадьевна Селютина; born 7 November 1979) is a former tennis player from Kazakhstan. She is a former world No. 1 in junior doubles, winning French Open and Wimbledon in 1997, partnering with Cara Black. Black and Selyutina were also crowned ITF Junior Girls Doubles World Champion in 1997. Meghann Shaughnessy (born April 13, 1979 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American former professional tennis player. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 11 in 2001 and won six titles on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour. Her best doubles ranking was world No. 4, and she won 17 WTA Tour doubles titles, including the WTA Championships in 2004. Nicole Pratt (born 5 March 1973) is a retired tennis player from Australia. Pratt was born in Mackay, Queensland. She is the middle sibling of five children of cane farmers and was taught to play by her father, George, who was a top junior player. Patricia Tarabini (born 6 August 1968) is a former tennis player from Argentina. "Conchita" Martínez Bernat (born 16 April 1972) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. She was the first Spaniard to win the women's singles title at The Championships, Wimbledon, Wimbledon, doing so in 1994 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles, 1994. Rita Grande (born 23 March 1975) is a former tennis player from Italy. During her career, Grande won three singles titles and five doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Alexandra Fusai (born 22 November 1973) is a former professional tennis player from France. Fusai was born in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine.
