2000–01 FINA Swimming World Cup
The 2000–2001 FINA Swimming World Cup was a series of ten international short course (25m) swimming meets organized by FINA. The meets were held in ten different cities, from November 2000 through January 2001. Each featured 34 events: seventeen for males and seventeen for females. FINA Swimming World Cup
The FINA Swimming World Cup is an international series of short course () swimming meets organized by FINA, the International Federation for swimming. Launched in 1988, the FINA Swimming World Cup gathers world-class swimmers in a series of two-day meets organised between August and November each year. Across nine locations, the circuit is structured in clusters (Middle East, Europe and Asia) and distributes a total of prize money reaching US$2.5 million. Currently, the overall first, second, and third-place winners are awarded prize money. The men's and women's series winners take home $150,000 each, runners-up $100,000, and third-place finishers $50,000, following a prize-money increase announced by FINA in September 2017. Giaan Rooney
Giaan Leigh Rooney, OAM (born 15 November 1982) is an Australian former competitive swimmer and television personality. As a member of the Australian team in women's 4×100-metre medley relay, she won an Olympic gold medal and broke a world record at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Rooney is currently an Australian television presenter. Personal life Rooney was born in Brisbane and moved to the Gold Coast at age 8 where she attended Miami State Primary School and All Saints Anglican School. Giaan is married to Sam Levett. Grant Hackett
Grant George Hackett OAM (born 9 May 1980) is an Australian swimmer, most famous for winning the men's 1500 metres freestyle race at both the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. This achievement has led him to be regarded as one of the greatest distance swimmers in history. He also collected a gold medal in Sydney for swimming in the heats of the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. He was well regarded for his versatility, and has held the long course world records in the 200 m, 800 m, and 1500 m freestyle events. He dominated the 1500 m event for a decade, being undefeated in the event in finals from 1996 until the 2007 World Aquatics Championships. Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (28 February 1942 – 3 July 1969) was an English multi-instrumentalist and singer best known as the founder, rhythm/lead guitarist, and original leader of the Rolling Stones. Initially a guitarist, he went on to provide backing vocals and played a wide variety of instruments on Rolling Stones recordings and in concerts. After he founded the Rolling Stones as a British blues outfit in 1962, and gave the band its name, Jones' fellow band members Keith Richards and Mick Jagger began to take over the band's musical direction, especially after they became a successful songwriting team. Nadine Rolland (born May 8, 1975) is a Canadian former competitive swimmer who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She represented Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and later became an official member of the Canadian squad at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England, following a controversy on the swimming federation's decision to forbid her from the team. Roland competed in the women's 50-metre freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. World Record Progression 50 Metres Freestyle
The first world record in the men's 50 metres freestyle in long course (50 metres) swimming was recognized by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in 1976. In the short course (25 metres) swimming events the world's governing body recognizes world records since March 3, 1991. The drop in world record times in the 2008/2009 coincided with the introduction of polyurethane suits from Speedo ( LZR, 50% polyurethane) in 2008 and by Arena ( X-Glide), Adidas (Hydrofoil) and Italian swimming suit manufacturer Jaked (all 100% polyurethane) in 2009. Malin Therese Alshammar (born 26 August 1977) is a Swedish swimmer who has won three Olympic medals, 25 World Championship medals, and 43 European Championship medals. She is a specialist in short distances races in freestyle and butterfly. She is coached by former Swedish swimmer Johan Wallberg. She is the first female swimmer and the third overall (after Lars Frölander and Derya Büyükuncu) to participate in six Olympic Games.
