Bob Huggins
Robert Edward Huggins (born September 21, 1953) is an American college basketball coach. Nicknamed “Huggy Bear,” he is currently the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team. Huggins previously held the head coaching positions at Walsh College (1980–1983), the University of Akron (1984–1989), the University of Cincinnati (1989–2005) and Kansas State University (2006–2007). He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022. One of only six coaches ever with 900 or more career victories, Huggins has been to 24 total NCAA tournaments, including 23 in the last 26 seasons. He has led his teams to nine Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances, and two Final Four appearances (1992 with Cincinnati and 2010 with West Virginia). Joyce Center
The Joyce Center, formerly the Athletic & Convocation Center, is a 9,149-seat multi-purpose arena in Notre Dame, Indiana just north of South Bend. The arena opened its doors in 1968. It is home to the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball and volleyball teams. The main arena, Phillip J. Purcell Pavilion, is located in the southern portion of the facility. The northern portion housed a hockey rink until October 2011. It is also home to the Castellan Family Fencing Center and Rolfs Aquatic Center (added on in 1985) in the rear of the building. The 2000–01 Kent State Golden Flashes men's basketball team represented Kent State University as a member of the Mid-American Conference during the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by fifth-year head coach Gary Waters, the Flashes reached the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons. After finishing atop the MAC East division in the regular season standings, Kent State won the MAC tournament to receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. 2001 Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2001 Conference USA men's basketball tournament was held March 7–10 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. Charlotte defeated Cincinnati in the championship game, 80–72, to clinch their second Conference USA men's tournament championship. The 49ers, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 2001 NCAA tournament. They were joined in the tournament by fellow C-USA member Cincinnati, who earned an at-large bid. Format There were no new changes to the tournament format. The top four teams were given byes into the quarterfinal round while the remaining eight teams were placed into the first round. All seeds were determined by overall regular season conference records. UNC Charlotte rebranded itself as '' Charlotte'' prior to the season.
