2000 Westar Rules Season
The 2000 Westar Rules season was the fourth season of ‘Westar Rules’ and the 116th season of the various incarnations of senior football in Perth. It was the last season before the competition's name was changed back to the traditional ‘ WAFL’ as it was clear the public had not been attracted by the change. Owing to the Sydney Olympics, Westar Rules shortened the 2000 season from twenty to eighteen matches per club, and retained this eighteen-match season in 2001 and 2002 before going back to the current twenty-match season. The 2000 season saw East Perth freed from the coaching and ground disputes that had wiped out their 1999 season, aided by a host club arrangement with West Coast and with Leederville Oval as home ground and Tony Micale as coach. The team rose from second last, with only five wins, to top of the table losing only three games. Rod Tregenza
Rodney Donald "Rod" Tregenza (born 16 January 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer. Originally playing for the South Mandurah Football Club in the Peel Football League (PFL), Tregenza was a member of 's squad for their first season in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), and later also played for , winning the Bernie Naylor Medal as the leading goalkicker in the competition in 1999 and 2000. He was recruited by the in the Australian Football League (AFL) in the 2001 Rookie draft, but did not play a game for the club, subsequently signing with the South Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Arena Joondalup, known as HBF Arena under a commercial naming rights arrangement, is a multi-purpose sports complex in Joondalup, Western Australia, located on 35 ha of parkland approximately 25 km north of Perth. Ashley Sampi (born 21 January 1984) is an indigenous Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League. He attended Trinity College, Perth, Trinity College in Perth, Western Australia and is most well known for taking the 2004 AFL Mark of the Year. Travis Edmonds (born 9 February 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Swan Districts Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). He was also drafted into the Australian Football League three times: to in 1991, to in 1993, and in 1995, but only played one senior game, with Fremantle in 1995.
