2000 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2000 Prince Edward Island general election was held on April 17, 2000 to elect the 27 members of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Premier Pat Binns' Progressive Conservative Party was elected to its second straight majority, winning every seat but one. This was an increase of eight seats from the previous election. The Liberal Party, led by rookie leader Wayne Carew, only won one seat, and Carew lost his own by a substantial margin. The New Democratic Party, led by Herb Dickieson, increased their popular vote from the previous election, but lost their only seat (Dickieson's own). Legislative Assembly Of Prince Edward Island
The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Legislative Assembly meets at Province House, which is located at the intersection of Richmond and Great George Streets in Charlottetown. Bills passed by the Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Prince Edward Island, represented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island. History As a colony, Prince Edward Island originally had a bicameral legislature founded in 1773 with the Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island serving as the upper house and the House of Assembly as the lower house. Hector MacLeod
Hector Lawrence MacLeod (born June 30, 1944) is a carpenter, contractor and former political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 1st Prince as ''Councillor'' (1993–1996) and then Alberton-Miminegash as ''MLA'' (1996–2000) in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as a Liberal. He was born in Ingonish, Nova Scotia, the son of Walter MacLeod and Julia Hardy, and was educated there. MacLeod has worked as a heavy equipment operator, as a realtor, has spent time farming and was also a fisher from 1980 to 1990. He was a member of the town council for Alberton, Prince Edward Island and served as mayor from 1979 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1993. John Paul Connolly (born June 22, 1946) is a Canadian former educator and politician. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 1982 provincial election and represented the electoral district of 6th Queens from 1982 to 1996, followed by Charlottetown-Rochford Square from 1996 to 2000. Jeffrey E. Lantz (born 3 February 1961) is a Canadian lawyer, judge and former politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2000 provincial election. Richard Brown (Canadian Politician)
Richard Earle Brown is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election. He represented the electoral district of Charlottetown-Victoria Park as a member of the Liberal Party. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in a 1997 by-election, following the resignation of Wayne Cheverie. He was subsequently defeated by Bob MacMillan in the 2000 provincial election, but defeated MacMillan when he ran again in the 2003 election. In June 2007, Brown was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Minister of Development and Technology. In April 2008, he became Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning. In January 2009, Brown was moved to Minister of Environment, Energy and Forestry. Brown was dropped from cabinet following the 2011 election. Bob MacMillan
Robert Lea MacMillan (born December 3, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward and a former politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. During his hockey career, he played two seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA), followed by eleven seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), from 1974–75 until 1984–85. Hockey career As a youth, MacMillan played in the 1964 and 1965 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Charlottetown. He was drafted 15th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. Upon his retirement, MacMillan returned to Charlottetown to coach senior hockey. After two years behind the bench he made a brief comeback to the ice when he dressed for two games with the Charlottetown Islanders in the 1987–88 season and scored four points. Keith Milligan
Keith Wayne Milligan (born February 8, 1950 in Inverness) was the 29th premier of Prince Edward Island, serving for seven weeks in the autumn of 1996. He was educated at Inverness District School, O'Leary Regional High School and the University of PEI, where he obtained Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees. Philip Brown is a Canadian politician, who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2000 to 2007.
