2000 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2000 Patriot League men's basketball tournament was played at Allan P. Kirby Field House in Easton, Pennsylvania after the conclusion of the 1999–2000 regular season. Lafayette defeated top seed , 87–61 in the championship game, to win its second Patriot League Tournament title. The Leopards earned an automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA tournament as #15 seed in the East region. Kirby Sports Center
Kirby Sports Center is a 3,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Easton, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1973 and is home to the Lafayette College Leopards basketball team. It hosted the 2000 Patriot League men's basketball tournament and has been the site of two Patriot League tournament finals, an Ivy League playoff game and numerous high school tournament contests. The arena in Kirby Sports Center underwent a $1.7 million renovation that was completed for the start of the 2013-14 academic year. 1999–2000 Lafayette Leopards Men's Basketball Team
The 1999–2000 Lafayette Leopards men's basketball team represented Lafayette College during the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Leopards, led by 5th year head coach Fran O'Hanlon, played their home games at the Kirby Sports Center and were members of the Patriot League. They finished the season 24–7, 11–1 in Patriot League play to finish tied for first place. Fran O'Hanlon
Francis Brian O'Hanlon (born August 24, 1948) was an American college basketball coach who was the head men's basketball coach at Lafayette College from 1995 to 2022. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, O'Hanlon played college basketball at Villanova University, from where he graduated in 1970. O 'Hanlon played in an infamous 1970 NCAA Tournament basketball game against Saint Bonaventure, when Bob Lanier was tripped up and injured in a collision with Chris Ford. He played professional basketball for the Miami Floridians of the ABA in the 1970–71 season despite being a Philadelphia 76ers draft pick in the 8th round of the 1970 NBA draft. He was the only Floridians player whose surname on the back of his jersey didn't need to be embellished with an O' prefix in a publicity stunt for the first game of a Saint Patrick's Day doubleheader versus the Utah Stars at Madison Square Garden in 1971. Stefan Ciosici
Doru Stefan Ciosici (''pronounced CHO-sitch''; born October 12, 1976) was a Romanian former basketball player known for his collegiate career at Lafayette College between 1995 and 2000, where he was the 1998 Patriot League Player of the Year. He also had a brief professional career in Italy following college. Ciosici became a schoolteacher in Bradenton, Florida. Early life Ciosici grew up in Timișoara, Romania, in a communist environment. Both of his parents were teachers and emphasized the importance of a good education. Basketball was not initially a goal of Ciosici's, but by his sophomore year in high school at Colegiul C.D. 2000 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 16, 2000, and ended with the championship game on April 3 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the RCA Dome. A total of 63 games were played. Due to a string of upsets throughout the tournament, only one top-four seed advanced to the Final Four. That was Michigan State, who finished the season as the #2 team in the nation and was given the top seed in the Midwest Region. The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprising private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States.
