The 2000 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner's Cup was the second conference of the 2000 PBA season The 2000 PBA season was the 26th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). ''The PBA on Viva TV'' was a presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games on Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation by Viva Entertainment after the company absorbed Vintage Sports. History In late 1999, Vintage Television was bought by media giant Viva Entertainment. Prior to the acquisition, Vintage Television have signed a three-year broadcast deal with the PBA earlier that year worth 770 million pesos. They defeated GMA Network, in its bid to enter into the sports broadcasting scene following ABS-CBN's coverage of the then-existing Metropolitan Basketball Association. From 2000 to 2001, Viva TV broadcast PBA games on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays with out of town games covered on Saturdays either live, tape-delay or aired days later. Joe Ira Clark (born June 15, 1975) is an American professional basketball player. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he is 2.03 meters tall and weighs 103 kilograms. He played for Efes Pilsen and Ülkerspor and won Turkish Basketball League titles with both Istanbul arch rivals. Tanduay Rhum Masters
The Tanduay Rhum Makers (1975-1987) and Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999-2001) were two basketball franchises associated with the same liquor brand that played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The original franchise, owned by Elizalde & Co., Inc., was a founding member of the PBA. From 1975-1980, the team played under the name Tanduay Distillery; Tanduay ESQ and Tanduay Esquires; then as, YCO-Tanduay in 1981-1983. The final name used by the original franchise was the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1983-1987). The original franchise won a total of three PBA championships. In 1988, its PBA franchise was acquired by Pure Foods Corporation and played as Purefoods. The second franchise played under the name Tanduay Rhum Masters and was owned by Tanduay Distillers, Inc. Harold Ellis (basketball)
Harold Ellis (born October 7, 1970) is a retired American professional basketball player. A 6'5" (1.96 m) shooting guard from Morehouse College, Ellis was never drafted by a National Basketball Association team but did manage to play in 3 NBA seasons. Professional career Following a two-season stint with the Quad City Thunder of the Continental Basketball Association, Ellis played for the Los Angeles Clippers from 1993 to 1995. He then moved to Europe and the Greek Basket League to play for Aris during the 1995–96 season, and Apollon Patras during the 1996–97 season. He then returned to the NBA to play for the Denver Nuggets during the 1997–98 season. In his NBA career, Ellis played in 145 games and scored a total of 840 points. Carl Thomas (basketball)
Carl Thomas (born October 3, 1969) is American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is currently an assistant coach at Duquesne University. Though born in Dayton, Ohio, Thomas moved to Lansing, Michigan where he played basketball at Everett High School. He went on to college at Eastern Michigan University, where he also played basketball. Thomas began his NBA career with the Sacramento Kings in 1991–92, playing one game, playing 31 minutes, scoring 12 points. He did not return to the league until 1996–97, when he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pop Cola Panthers were a professional basketball team that played in the Philippine Basketball Association from 1990-2001. The franchise was owned by RFM Corporation. In 2001, when RFM Corporation sold its entire stake in Cosmos Bottling Corporation to Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI), the PBA franchise was included in the transaction. Upon ownership by CCBPI, the PBA franchise renamed the Coca-Cola Tigers beginning the 2002 PBA season and was considered as an expansion team. John Best (basketball)
John Herbert Best (born March 27, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. A forward/center listed at 6-foot-8, he played college basketball at Tennessee Tech for 4 years, and in his senior year he ranked 3rd in the NCAA Division I in scoring with an average of 28.5 points per game. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the second round of the 1993 NBA draft (36th overall), but he was cut before the beginning of the 1993–94 NBA season and started his professional career in France. Stephen Christopher Howard (born July 15, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and played college basketball at DePaul University from 1988 to 1992. He was an Academic All-American his junior and senior years. Obinna Julius Nwosu (born May 1, 1971), is a Nigerian former professional basketball player. He played briefly for the American National Basketball Association's San Antonio Spurs during the 1994–95 NBA season.
