2000 Jahre Christentum (TV Series)
''2000 Jahre Christentum'' (''2000 Years of Christianity'') is a German documentary series on the history of Christianity prior to the year 1999. Plot The historical series begins with the rise of Christianity, as it spread across the world over the course of 2,000 years. Werner Herzog wrote and directed the ninth episodes which shows the piety of people today, especially the descendants of the original Christian followers in Latin America. The last part of the series deals with questions of the future, which Christians often pose today. Production The series was produced by ARD in collaboration with the Munich Tellux production company. The project was funded by the Bavarian Film and Television Fund. The individual episodes were directed by different people. Bernd Grote produced the series and won a 2000 Bavarian Television Award. The history of Christianity concerns the Christian religion, Christian countries, and the Christians with their various denominations, from the 1st century to the present. Christianity originated with the ministry of Jesus, a Jewish teacher and healer who proclaimed the imminent Kingdom of God and was crucified in Jerusalem in the Roman province of Judea. His followers believe that, according to the Gospels, he was the Son of God and that he died for the forgiveness of sins and was raised from the dead and exalted by God, and will return soon at the inception of God's kingdom. Werner Herzog
Werner Herzog (; born 5 September 1942) is a German film director, screenwriter, author, actor, and opera director, regarded as a pioneer of New German Cinema. His films often feature ambitious protagonists with impossible dreams, people with unique talents in obscure fields, or individuals in conflict with nature. ARD (broadcaster)
ARD is a joint organisation of Germany's regional public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services – in particular the introduction of a joint television network. The ARD has a budget of €6.9 billion, 22,612 employees and is the largest public broadcaster network in the world. The budget comes primarily from a licence fee which every household, company and public institution are required by law to pay. For an ordinary household the fee is currently €18.36 per month.
