2000 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup
The 2000 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the fifth staging of the Icelandic Men's League Cup. 36 teams took part. The competition started on 3 March 2000 and concluded on 4 September 2000 with Grindavík beating Valur 4-0 in the final. Details * The 36 teams were divided into six groups of six teams. Each team played one match with other teams in the group once. The top two teams from each group qualified for the second round along with the best four third placed teams. Grindavík Men's Football
The Grindavík men's football team is the men's football department of the Ungmennafélag Grindavíkur multi-sport club. It is based in Grindavík in south-west Iceland, and currently plays in the Lengjudeildin, The second tier in Icelandic football. History The club won its way slowly up the leagues, beginning in the third tier and spending some time there before promotion to the second tier and at last promotion to the first tier in 1994. The club established itself there, and for years was the only side in the top divisions to have never been relegated from any division. Sigurður Jónsson was appointed manager before the 2006 season, after a successful period at Víkingur. In that season, Grindavík got relegated for the first time in their history. Freyr (Old Norse: 'Lord'), sometimes anglicized as Frey, is a widely attested god in Norse mythology, associated with kingship, fertility, peace, and weather. Íþróttafélagið Leiknir, commonly known as Leiknir Reykjavík, is an Icelandic multi-sports club. It is best known for its men's football team that plays in 1. deild karla (football), 1. deild karla, the second tier of Icelandic football, but also fields departments in Badminton, basketball, volleyball and karate. The club was founded in 1973 and is based in Breiðholt, Reykjavík. Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) is an Icelandic multi-sports district association from Vestmannaeyjar off the south coast of Iceland. It was founded in 1903 as Fótboltafélag Vestmannaeyja by Björgúlfur Ólafsson, military doctor for the Dutch army. It was soon renamed to Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja (KV) and then to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) héraðssamband in 1945. ÍBV played as KV in the first Icelandic first league tournament in 1912. There have been formed several association entities with the ÍBV name to manage various of sports.
