2. Deild Karla (football)
2. deild karla (English: Men's Second Division) is a association football, football league in Iceland. It is the third division in the Icelandic football league system. The current champions are Ungmennafélagið_Afturelding, Afturelding from Mosfellsbær, who won their 1st title in 2018. The division was started in 1966 as third division with two provisional groups, with number of teams varying from 7 to 10 teams in each group. In 1987 it was decided to merge the two groups to form a single nationwide league with 10 teams so at the end of the 1987 season only three teams from each group would stay in the league, the top teams in each group were promoted, all other teams relegated to the 4th division and two teams promoted from the 4th division. In 1997 after a name change, the division became Second division. In 2008, as a part of a general change in Icelandic football, the number of teams was increased from 10 to 12. Hafnarfjörður
Hafnarfjörður (), officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður (), is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. At about 30,000 inhabitants, Hafnarfjörður is the third-most populous city in Iceland after Reykjavík and Kópavogur. Reyðarfjörður
Reyðarfjörður () is a town in Iceland. It has a population of 1,350 and is one of the most populated villages that constitute the municipality of Fjarðabyggð. History The town is at the bottom of the eponymous fjord, the largest on the east coast of Iceland. Like most other towns in the East Fjords, it is surrounded by mountains, of which the highest is about . Although the climate is particularly rainy and foggy, on clear summer days it often has the highest temperatures in Iceland. Ólafsfjörður
Ólafsfjörður () is a town in the northeast of Iceland located at the mouth of the fjord Eyjafjörður. The town is connected to Dalvík on Eyjafjörður by the 3.5 km one-lane Múli tunnel (the ''Múlagöng'') and to Siglufjörður by the 11 km Héðinsfjörður Tunnels, opened in 2010. The ÍR men's football team, commonly known as ÍR is the men's football department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and currently plays in 2. deild karla. History Although football was one of the first sports practiced at Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur, it's football department was not formally founded until 7 March 1939. In 1943, Guðmundur S. Hofdal, the former trainer of the Olympic gold-winners Winnipeg Falcons, was hired as a coach. In 1944 it fielded a senior team in the national tournament for the first time.
