2. Deild
2. deild is the third tier league of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1976 and is organized by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It was originally called ''3. deild'' but became ''2. deild'' after a reorganization of the Faroe Islands football league system in 2005. History The league was founded in 1943 and was named ''Meðaldeildin'' (The Middle Division): this was 1 year after the founding of the ''Meistaradeildin'', the original top level Faroe Islands football league. There was no promotion and relegation system at the time, and the two leagues operated separately from each other. Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands ( ), or simply the Faroes ( fo, Føroyar ; da, Færøerne ), are a North Atlantic island group and an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. They are located north-northwest of Scotland, and about halfway between Norway ( away) and Iceland ( away). The islands form part of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with mainland Denmark and Greenland. Leirvík ÍF
Leirvík ( da, Lervig) is a town on the Faroe Islands and was an important regional ferry harbour at the east coast of the second-largest island Eysturoy. Leirvík has a population of 1,048 (2022). It was the only town in the municipality of Leirvík (''Leirvíkar kommuna''), however on 1 January 2009, it merged with Gøtu kommuna to make the new municipality called Eysturkommuna. Leirvík is important for its fishing industry. The Norðoyatunnilin, a submarine tunnel to Klaksvík to the east, was opened in April 2006. A district heating system pulls heat from the sea, increases the heat in a heat pump powered by electricity, and sends the heat to the large buildings in the town. FC Suðuroy
FC Suðuroy is a Faroese football club which was founded in January 2010 and consists currently of the former clubs VB (founded in 1905) and Sumba (founded in 1949), which merged in 2005 to form VB/Sumba. FC Suðuroy's first team in the men's championship competes in the 1. deild in 2021. All teams play their home games at the á Eiðinum Stadium in Vágur. The club logo was designed by the photographer Rógvi Nolsøe Johansen in 2010, the same year he won the competition to design a logo for the club. History VB/Sumba played in 1. deild (1. division, which is the second tier) in 2009 and won the division. Undrið FF
Undrið FF is a Faroese football team from the Faroese capital Tórshavn. The team also plays at the Hoyvíkvøllur. The club was founded 18 January 2006, under the name ''Undrið FF''. This makes the team one of the youngest member of the Faroe Islands Football Association. History The idea to found the new football team began with a birthday party in 2005. In the 2021 season, the team cruise-controlled through the season, gaining promotion to the 1. Deild for the first time in the club's history. This was the first season that chairman, Arnar Lognberg, was in charge of the team for a full calendar year. FC Hoyvík (2019)
FC Hoyvík is a Faroese football club founded in 2012 after the merger of FF Giza and the original FC Hoyvík. Initially it was known as Giza Hoyvík but was renamed to FC Hoyvík after 2018 season and since 2019 was known as FC Hoyvík. The club is based in Hoyvík, and play their home matches in Hoyvíksvøllur. History In their first season, they played in 2. deild and finished 3rd losing the promotion on goal difference. In 2013 and 2014 they finished 3rd again, finally achieving promotion to the second tier in 2015. They spent three seasons in 1. deild, being relegated back to 2. deild in 2018. After the end of the 2018 season, the club announced it would be renamed to FC Hoyvík. The club played its home matches in Gundadalur's second field until June 2017, when Hoyvíksvøllur (also called J&K vøllur because of sponsorship reasons) was opened. Skála Ítróttarfelag (Skála ÍF) is a Faroese football club based in Skáli, municipality of Runavík. The club was founded on 15 May 1965. They currently play in the Betrideildin, which is the top football league of the Faroe Islands. They were promoted to the top league after winning the 2015 season of 1, deild with 70 points. B71 (Sandoy) (B71 being short for Bóltfelagið 1971 – literal translation: "Ball Club 1971") is a Faroese sports club, playing their home games '' Inni í Dal'', Sandur.
