1st Cavalry Division (Belgium)
The 1st Cavalry Division (French: ''1ere Division de Cavalerie'') was a cavalry division of the Battle of Belgium order of battle, Belgian Army that fought against the Wehrmacht, German Armed Forces in the Battle of Belgium. History World War I At the start of World War I, the 1st Cavalry Division was not formed yet, but was part of a reserve Cavalry Division as '1st Cavalry Brigade.' Its headquarters were in Brussels and was composed of the 1st and 2nd Guides Regiment. World War II When the 1st Cavalry Division was mobilized in late 1939, most of its regiments were at full strength. Two regiments of the 1st Cavalry Division (the 1/3rd Lancers Battalion, 3rd Lancers regiment, and the 1st Cyclist Regiment (Belgium), 1st Cyclist regiment) left, weakening the Division in 1940. 2nd/4th Lancers Regiment
The 2/4th Lancers Regiment ( nl, 2/4 Regiment Lansiers) was a cavalry regiment in the Land Component of the Belgian Armed Forces. It was created by the merging of the 2nd Lancers and the 4th Lancers Regiments. The regiment was the Armoured Battalion of the 1st Brigade. Guides Regiment
The 1st Guides Regiment (french: 1e Régiment des Guides, nl, 1e Regiment Gidsen) was an armoured regiment of the Belgian Army. Previously amalgamated with the 1st Regiment Chasseurs à cheval (2004), in 2011 the regiment was amalgamated with 2/4 Regiment of Chasseurs à cheval to form the "Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, Reconnaissance (ISTAR) battalion of the Chasseurs à cheval". Cavalry regiment The two historic Guides regiments of the Belgian Army were created respectively in 1833 and 1874. They formed part of the light cavalry and came to correspond to the Guard cavalry of other nations, providing mounted escorts for the monarchy prior to World War I. Saint-Hubert (; wa, Sint-Houbert) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. K-W Line
The Koningshooikt—Wavre Line, abbreviated to KW Line (french: Ligne KW; nl, KW-stelling) and often known as the Dyle Line after the Dijle, Dijle (Dyle) river, was a -long fortified line of defence prepared by the Belgian Army between Koningshooikt (Province of Antwerp) and Wavre (Province of Brabant) which was intended to protect Brussels from a possible German invasion. Construction on the KW Line began in September 1939 after World War II had begun but while Belgium itself remained a neutral state. It was subsequently extended southwards from Wavre towards Namur (Province of Namur). The line itself consisted of bunkers, anti-tank ditches, and barricades including so-called Cointet-elements and played a key role in Allied strategy during the Battle of Belgium, German invasion of Belgium in May 1940.
