The Rasmus
The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were in upper comprehensive school.Main source of the band's history: The original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead singer-songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Jarno Lahti (drums). Jarno Lahti left the year after and was replaced by Janne Heiskanen in 1995. Heiskanen quit the band in 1999 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala. Pauli Rantasalmi left the band and was replaced by female guitarist Emilia "Emppu" Suhonen in 2022. Best known for their 2003 hit single " In the Shadows", the band has sold 5 million albums worldwide and approximately 350,000 albums in Finland alone, and has won numerous awards, both domestic and international. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. The Bundesverband Musikindustrie (English: Federal Music Industry Association), or simply BVMI, represents the music industry in Germany. The association represents the interests of nearly 280 labels and music industry related enterprises, which comprise 90% of the music industry. Bundesverband Musikindustrie is a member of International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which is based in London, England. IFPI consists of music associations of 70 countries. BVMI works closely with GfK Entertainment (formerly "Media Control GfK International") (founded in 1976) which is in charge of publishing the music charts in Germany on weekly bases. ''Dead Letters'' is the fifth album by Finnish band The Rasmus released in 2003. It was released later in 2004 in the US, UK and Australia. Their previous album, '' Into'', had seen some success in some parts of Europe, particularly Scandinavia and Germany, but ''Dead Letters'' signified the band's major break-through. The album received 8 Gold and 6 Platinum music certification awards. Lead single " In the Shadows" received 6 gold and 2 platinum awards, selling over 1 million copies and breaking the record for performance royalties received abroad on a Finnish composition (overtaking the works of Jean Sibelius). ''Into'' (''Enthusiasm'') is the fourth studio album by the Finnish rock band The Rasmus (after '' Peep'', '' Playboys'' and ''Hell of a Tester''), and the first studio album to be released under the name "The Rasmus". It was originally released on October 29, 2001 by Playground Music. It is the band's first studio album with their new drummer Aki Hakala, who replaced Janne Heiskanen in 1999. The (international only) singles taken from it were "F-F-F-Falling", "Chill", "Madness" and "Heartbreaker/Days". All of these were released in 2001 apart from ''Heartbreaker/Days'', which was released in 2002. For this fact and the name's change, some fans consider this album the first of "The Rasmus". The album has sold double platinum in Finland and was the first album by The Rasmus to be released in other European countries such as France and Spain. ''Hell of a Tester'' (sometimes written Hellofatester) is the third studio album by The Rasmus, then called Rasmus. It was released in 1998 by Warner Music and received Gold status in Finland. The most popular single was '' Liquid'', which was released in September, getting into the Top 40 on MTV Nordic. It was voted Single of the Year for 1998 by music critics and fans and the video won an award in 1999 at the Finnish Music Video Awards. The booklet and cover art has braille dotting of lyrics from the songs inside and "Hellofatester" on the cover. ''Playboys'' is the second studio album by Finnish rock band The Rasmus (formerly known as "Rasmus") which was released on 29 August 1997 on Warner Music Finland. It was certified Gold in Finland, and the single "Blue" also went Gold when it was released in May the same year. The album was not as popular outside their homeland Finland. Besides the band members, there were many additional musicians (see below) that appeared on ''Playboys''. This made the album sound very different from regular rock. With the singer Lauri Ylönen's rap vocals, it became more like rapcore. The compact disc (CD) is a digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings.
