1999 Washington Redskins Season
The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 68th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 63rd in Washington, D.C. The team improved on their 6–10 record from 1998 to go 10–6. They succeeded to the extent of reaching their first postseason since 1992 and beating the Lions in the first week of the playoffs; as of 2020, this is Washington's most recent home playoff win. Their season would end after losing to the Buccaneers by a single point in the divisional playoff round. The season would also be the first full season for new team owner Daniel Snyder, who purchased the team prior to the start of the season from Jack Kent Cooke's estate, and under whose ownership the team would decline. It would be the fourth and final season that the Redskins qualified for the playoffs in the 1990s and for the next five seasons, the team fell out of contention. NFC East
The National Football Conference – Eastern Division or NFC East is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It currently has four members: the Dallas Cowboys (based in Arlington, Texas), New York Giants (based in East Rutherford, New Jersey), Philadelphia Eagles (based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), and the Washington Commanders (based in Landover, Maryland). Ricky Williams Trade
The Ricky Williams trade was a trade between the New Orleans Saints and Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL), which occurred prior to the 1999 NFL Draft. Mike Ditka of the Saints wanted to move up in the draft order from the twelfth overall pick to ensure that he would be able to select Ricky Williams from the University of Texas at Austin. To do so, his team traded every pick it had in the draft, plus two of its first three picks in the 2000 NFL Draft, for the fifth overall pick, with which it selected Williams. Placekicker
Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Paul Jeffery Hall (born July 30, 1976) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League for the St. Louis Rams. He played college football at the University of Tennessee, and was drafted in the sixth round of the 1999 NFL Draft with the 181st overall pick by the Washington Redskins. After leaving the NFL, he became a NFLPA-registered financial advisor for Rather & Kittrell Capital Management in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Virginia Tech Hokies football team represents Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the sport of American football. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. Jonathan Ward Jansen (born January 28, 1976) is a former American football offensive tackle. He previously played for the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses.
