1999 Tour De Langkawi
The 1999 Tour de Langkawi was the 4th edition of the Tour de Langkawi, a cycling stage race that took place in Malaysia. It started on 3 February in Langkawi and ended on 14 February in Kuala Lumpur. The race was sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as a 2.4 category race. Italian Paolo Lanfranchi won the race, Sergei Ivanov of Russia second and Allan Iacoune of Australia third. Graeme Miller of New Zealand also won the points classification and Alessandro Petacchi of Italy won the mountains classification of the race. won the team classification of the race. Paolo Lanfranchi
Paolo Lanfranchi (born July 25, 1968 in Gazzaniga, Province of Bergamo) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. Originally from Gazzaniga, Italy. Lanfranchi was a dominating figure in the Italian road racing scene by winning many points standings. Turning pro in 1993, he captured his first major victory in winning a Yellow Jersey for General classification of the Tour de Langkawi in 1999 riding for the team, and again in 2001 with the same team. René Haselbacher (born 15 September 1977 in Vienna) is an Austrian retired professional road bicycle racer. Rinaldo Nocentini (born 25 September 1977) is an Italian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 1999 and 2019 for the , , Formaggi Pinzolo Fiavé, , and teams. Chris Newton
Christopher Malcolm Newton (born 29 September 1973, Middlesbrough, England) is a road and track racing cyclist. Newton is a multiple world champion and triple Olympic medalist. Biography Newton went to Linthorpe Juniors and Boynton Comprehensive in Teesside, and, aged 13, started cycling with Teesside Clarion. He is an alumnus of the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough. Newton first competed in the Commonwealth Games in 1994, winning the silver medal in the Team Pursuit with Tony Doyle, Rob Hayles and Bryan Steel. He was a member of the British Team Pursuit squad which finished tenth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The team included Matt Illingworth, Rob Hayles and Bryan Steel. David McKenzie (born 6 August 1974) is an Australian former racing cyclist. He won the Australian national road race title in 1998. McKenzie's biggest victory came on stage 7 of the 2000 Giro d'Italia where he rode to victory after a 164 km solo breakaway. McKenzie won the Goulburn to Sydney Classic in 2005. Andrea Tafi (born 7 May 1966, in Fucecchio) is an Italian former road bicycle racer who retired from his professional career in 2005. Tafi's propensity to perform best in the harder races earned him the nickname "Il Gladiatore" (English: "The Gladiator"). Tafi specialized in the cobbled Spring Classics such as Paris–Roubaix which he won in 1999, and Tour of Flanders which he won in 2002. He won the Giro di Lombardia in 1996 and the Italian National Championship in 1998. Career The most successful part of Tafi's career was spent with the Italian super-squad .
