The 24th Toronto International Film Festival ran from September 9 to September 18, 1999. The festival opened with Atom Egoyan's ''Felicia's Journey'' and closed with '' Onegin'' by Martha Fiennes. Felicia's Journey (film)
''Felicia's Journey'' is a 1999 British-Canadian psychological thriller, psychological thriller film written and directed by Atom Egoyan and starring Elaine Cassidy and Bob Hoskins. It is based on the prize-winning 1994 Felicia's Journey, novel of the same name by William Trevor. It was entered into the 1999 Cannes Film Festival and won four 20th Genie Awards, Genie Awards, including Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Award for Best Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay. Catherine Annau
Catherine Annau is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and writer. ''Shower'' () is a 1999 Chinese comedy-drama film directed by Zhang Yang and starring Zhu Xu, Pu Cunxin and Jiang Wu. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 14 September 1999 and won the FIPRESCI Prize. Though only the second directorial work by Zhang and the third production of Imar Film, ''Shower'' was selected for numerous film festivals, including San Sebastian Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival, where it received many awards. Written by Zhang and a team of young scriptwriters, the film revolves around a family-run bathhouse in Beijing. Patrick Demers is a film director from Montreal, born in 1969 in Saint-Eustache, Quebec. Biography Following his graduation from film school at the age of 22, Demers traveled around the world alone over six months with a handheld camera for ''La Course destination monde'' ( Radio-Canada Television) and started shooting. After a few years working as a director in the television and advertising industries, his first short fiction film, ''Discharge (Décharge)'', won the award for Best Canadian Short Film at the Toronto International Film Festival.
