The 1999 South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup (also known as SAFF Coca-Cola Cup due to sponsorship reasons) was held in Goa, India between 22 April 1999 and 1 May 1999. The Nehru Stadium in Margao played host to all matches. India successfully defended their title by beating Bangladesh in the final, by doing so they became the first team to retain the title as well. SAFF
South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), founded in 1997, is an association of the football playing nations in South Asia and is part of the larger Asian Football Confederation. The members of the association are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. History The SAFF was founded in 1997, with Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In 2000, they expanded to 7 members, adding Bhutan. In 2005, Afghanistan joined too, but later, left in 2015, to join then newly formed Central Asian Football Association. Syed Sabir Pasha (born 5 November 1972) is a former Indian football player and technical director at All India Football Federation. The South Asian Football Federation Championship, commonly known as SAFF Championship (previously known as ''South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation Gold Cup'' and ''South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup''), is the main international association football competition of the men's national football teams governed by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). Bruno Coutinho (born 6 October 1969) is an Indian football player from Goa, and winner of the Arjuna Award in 2001, a national Indian award for excellence in sport. Former Indian captain Coutinho studied in Monte De Guirim, who was recognized by coach Paul Raj, he played his 1st game against school rivals ST.Pilar, having scored 3 goals and winning Subroto Mukerjee Cup Football tournament u17. Ismail Shah (born 14 February 1971 in the Maldives) is a Maldivian former footballer. Career International Representing the Maldives for much of his football career, Shah was captain of the team in 2003 and participated in the 1997 SAFF Championship where he scored one goal facing Sri Lanka. Post-football After his retirement, Shah served as deputy youth minister and General Secretary of the Football Association of Maldives. He then became deputy minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and has experience being a football match official.
