Russian Premier League
The Russian Premier League (RPL; russian: Российская премьер-лига; РПЛ), also written as Russian Premier Liga, is the top division professional association football league in Russia. It was established at the end of 2001 as the Russian Football Premier League (RFPL; russian: Российская футбольная премьер-лига; РФПЛ) and was rebranded with its current name in 2018. From 1992 through 2001, the top level of the Russian football league system was the Russian Football Championship (russian: Чемпионат России по футболу, ''Chempionat Rossii po Futbolu''). There are 16 teams in the competition. PFC Krylia Sovetov Samara (russian: Профессиональный футбольный клуб «Крылья Советов» Самара) is a football club from Russia based in Samara. FC Lokomotiv Nizhny Novgorod was a Russian football club based in Nizhny Novgorod. They spent eight seasons in the Russian Premier League. History Early years The team of the railway workers was founded in Nizhny Novgorod in 1916. Later it was known as ''Chervonka'' (1918-1922), ''Spartak'' (1923-1930), ''Tyaga'' (1931), ''Zheleznodorozhniki'' (1932-1935). In 1936 the team was renamed ''Lokomotiv'' and retained this name until 2002, when it was renamed ''Lokomotiv-NN''. Yevhen Kucherevskyi
Yevhen Mefodiyovych Kucherevskyi ( uk, Євген Мефодiйoвич Кучеревський, russian: Евгений Мефодьевич Кучеревский) (6 August 1941 – 26 August 2006) was a Ukrainian football coach. He is most famous for his spells managing Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, which, under his helm, won the Soviet Championship in 1988, took 2nd place twice in 1987 and 1989, as well as the USSR Cup in 1989. Dnipro's recent success in the first half of the 2000s is mostly attributed to his coaching as well. On 26 August 2006, Kucherevskyi's Mercedes-Benz suffered a head-on collision with a KAMAZ truck. The much respected coach died an hour and half later in a hospital, without regaining consciousness. Upon Kucherevskyi's funeral, the Dnipropetrovsk mayor, Ivan Kulichenko, announced the plan to name one of the city streets to the celebrated coach.
