Tennyson (born September 29, 1950) was the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Transportation under former Governor Pat McCrory and former two-term mayor of Durham, North Carolina. Mayor of Durham Tennyson was mayor from 1997 to 2001. Elected in November, 1997, Tennyson was re-elected in 1999 with almost two-thirds of the vote but lost a second re-election bid to Bill Bell by fewer than 500 votes in 2001. Public service was a family tradition as his father had served as mayor of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, in the early 1950s. He campaigned to reduce crime, redevelop of the urban core, and increase confidence in city administration. Tennyson was an active supporter of data-based public safety efforts and instituted quarterly reports to Council – replacing the past practice of an annual report. In the spring of 1999, before Tennyson's reelection to a second term, Durham experienced its largest drop in crime since 1971, when the city began keeping computeri ... Michael Peterson (criminal)
Michael Iver Peterson (born October 23, 1943) is an American novelist who was convicted in 2003 of murdering his second wife, Kathleen Peterson, on December 9, 2001. After eight years, Peterson was granted a new trial after the judge ruled a critical prosecution witness gave misleading testimony. In 2017, Peterson submitted an Alford plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to time already served and freed. Peterson's case is the subject of the French documentary miniseries '' The Staircase'', which started filming soon after his arrest in 2001 and followed events until his eventual Alford plea in 2017. In 2019, he released his own account of his life since his wife's death in an independently published memoir, ''Behind the Staircase''. '' The Staircase'', a 2022 miniseries featuring Colin Firth and Toni Collette, also takes this murder case as its subject.
