During the 1998–99 English football season, Ipswich Town competed in the Football League First Division. Season summary In the 1998–99 season, Ipswich fans felt it would be third time lucky in the play-offs for the Tractor Boys. However the team once again lost on away goals to Bolton Wanderers. Ipswich had been second at the beginning of April but defeat to Bolton saw Bradford City overtake them and two more defeats in their last four games, including a shock home defeat to relegation-threatened Crewe Alexandra, saw Ipswich finish third. Ipswich () is a port town and borough in Suffolk, England, of which it is the county town. The town is located in East Anglia about away from the mouth of the River Orwell and the North Sea. Ipswich is both on the Great Eastern Main Line railway and the A12 road; it is north-east of London, east-southeast of Cambridge and south of Norwich. Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. Mick Stockwell
Michael Thomas Stockwell (born 14 February 1965) is an English football manager and former professional footballer. As a player he was a midfielder from 1985 until 2007. He spent eighteen years of his career at Ipswich Town, notching up 506 league appearances for the club and taking part in several Premier League seasons. He moved on to Colchester United in 2000, where he ended his professional career three years later. He then spent time as player-coach of Non-league side Heybridge Swifts before becoming player-manager of Woodbridge Town. John Kennedy (born 19 August 1978) is a semi-professional footballer who plays for Bury Town. Kennedy began his career at Ipswich Town, where he made eight league appearances, before being twice loaned to Morecambe. Kieron Courtney Dyer (born 29 December 1978) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was recently the U23s manager at Ipswich Town. Born in Ipswich, Dyer played youth football for his home club Ipswich Town before going on to make nearly 100 league appearances for the club's first team. He was sold to Newcastle United for £6 million, at the time the highest fee paid for an Ipswich player, and made nearly 200 appearances for Newcastle between 1999 and 2007. James Richard Clapham (born 7 December 1975) is an English former professional footballer and current head coach of Loughborough Students. Fabian Wilnis (born 23 August 1970) is a Dutch- Surinamese former professional footballer who played as a full-back. He played for NAC Breda, De Graafschap, Ipswich Town, Grays Athletic and Leiston. Wilnis started his career with the Sparta Rotterdam academy. After leaving the youth system at Sparta Rotterdam he joined NAC Breda in 1991. Jean-Manuel Thetis (born 5 November 1971 in Sarcelles, France) is a French former professional footballer who played 116 matches and scored 4 goals in Ligue 1 in the 1989–1997 period and played 22 matches and scored 2 goals for Marseille in Ligue 2 in the 1994–95 season. Mark Venus (born 6 April 1967) is an English football coach and former player. He works as assistant head coach of Sunderland. As a player, he spent the majority of his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town. Tony Mowbray
Anthony Mark Mowbray (born 22 November 1963) is an English former professional footballer who is currently the manager of Sunderland. Mowbray played for Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich Town as a defender. He began his coaching career with Ipswich Town and took his first managerial job at Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, where he won the Scottish Football Writers' Association Manager of the Year award in his first season.
