1998–99 Greek Football Cup
The 1998–99 Greek Football Cup was the 57th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Olympiacos defeated Panathinaikos in the final on May 5, 1999. Tournament details In total, 60 teams participated: 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 24 from Gamma. The competition was held over six rounds, included the final. The first three rounds were single elimination matches. AEK Athens and PAOK, both of the Alpha Ethniki, were eliminated by lower division teams Poseidon Michaniona and Panserraikos respectively. As is typically seen in this tournament, half of the eight quarter-final teams came from Beta Ethniki. They were Kalamata, Panserraikos, Athinaikos and ILTEX Lykoi. Panionios G.S.S. ILTEX Lykoi ( el, ΗΛΤΕΞ Λύκοι) was a football club based in Kalochori, Thessaloniki, Greece. The team was owned by the Greek businessman Kostas Iliadis. Iliadis was the owner of a group of companies that consisted of Iltex Lykoi, Knitting Mills of Pieria, Iltex S.A, Dyeing Industry of Sindos S.A, Dyeing Industry of Kilkis S.A, Iltex Construction company S.A, with a total turnover of 70 million Euro and 900 people staff. A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In sports (particularly association football), a two-legged tie is a contest between two teams which comprises two matches or "legs", with each team as the home team in one leg. The winning team is usually determined by aggregate score, the sum of the scores of the two legs. 1992–93 Greek Football Cup
The 1992–93 Greek Football Cup was the 51st edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 72 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 36 from Gamma. It was held in 6 rounds, included final. Without particular surprises, minus the elimination of Aris in the Group stage by Ethnikos Piraeus and Paniliakos, teams of lower divisions, the three big teams of Attica qualified easily or with difficulty to semi-finals. In that round, Olympiacos eliminated AEK Athens, the season's champions, after two very interesting matches, with qualification to be judged in extra time. Panathinaikos had easier work against Apollon Athens. In the Final, that was held in Olympic Stadium, Panathinaikos managed to win their ''eternal'' opponent by 1–0, opening the street for a line of three possessed wins of the Cup.
