1998–99 Fulham F.C. Season
The 1998–99 season was Fulham's 101st season in professional football. They played in the Second Division (previously known as the Third Division), achieving promotion to the First Division as champions, with a massive 14-point gap on Second place. The club also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they were beaten by eventual winners Manchester United. On 17 February 1999, Kevin Keegan was appointed England coach on a part-time basis following the departure of Glenn Hoddle. Keegan then left Craven Cottage at the end of the season to concentrate on his duties as England manager. Fulham replaced Keegan with Paul Bracewell as player-manager. The 1998–99 season was the 119th season of competitive football in England. Overview Premier League Manchester United overcame close competition from Arsenal and Chelsea to win their fifth Premiership title in seven seasons. They went on to win the treble of the Premiership title, FA Cup and European Cup, an achievement which gained manager Alex Ferguson a knighthood. Nottingham Forest went down to Division One just one season after winning promotion. They had started the season terribly after manager Dave Bassett was sacked and Dutch striker Pierre van Hooijdonk refused to play after a dispute with the club. Experienced Ron Atkinson was brought in on a temporary contract but could not stave off relegation. Steve Finnan
Stephen John Finnan (born 24 April 1976) is an Irish former international footballer who played as a right back. He is the only player to have played in the World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, Intertoto Cup, all four levels of the English league football and the Football Conference. Among the honours won during his career was the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final for Liverpool. Finnan was known for his attacking role and ability to cross the ball. He played 52 internationals for the Republic of Ireland from his debut in 2000, scoring twice. He played for them at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Chris Coleman (footballer)
Christopher Patrick Coleman (born 10 June 1970) is a Welsh professional football manager and former player, who is the current manager of Super League Greece club Atromitos. As a player, Coleman usually played in defence, while also occasionally appearing as a forward. He began his career at Manchester City, leaving as a teenager to make his debut for hometown team Swansea City in 1987. In 1991, he joined Crystal Palace, whom he represented in the Premier League. He spent a year-and-a-half at league champions Blackburn Rovers before signing for Fulham in 1997, helping the team to two promotions from the third tier to the top flight. Rufus Brevett
Rufus Brevett (born 24 September 1969) is an English football manager and former professional footballer. As a player, he was a defender who notably played in the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers, Fulham and West Ham United. He was part of the Fulham team that won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2002. He also played in the Football League for Doncaster Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Leicester City and Oxford United. Since retiring, Brevett was manager of non-league side Arlesey Town between 2013 and 2014. He was most recently the manager of Hanworth Villa, having been appointed in May 2016. Philippe Julien Albert (born 10 August 1967) is a Belgian former professional Association football, footballer and television pundit. As a player he was a Defender (association football), defender. Andre Leander Arendse (born 27 June 1967) is a South African former soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. He now works as an assistant and goalkeeper coach for Supersport United and has also been a co-presenter with SuperSport. Simon Brown (footballer, Born 1976)
Simon James Brown (born 5 December 1976, in Chelmsford) is an English former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Playing career Brown started his career with Tottenham Hotspur as an apprentice but did not make a first team appearance at White Hart Lane. Instead, he spent several spells on loan at lower league clubs before signing for Colchester United in 1999. After five years and more than 100 starts for the Layer Road club, he moved north to join Hibernian in 2004. Brown struggled to hold down a regular place with Hibernian and was given a free transfer at the end of the 2006–07 season.
