1998–99 England Hockey League Season
The 1998–99 English Hockey League season took place from October 1998 until May 1999. The men's National League was won by Cannock with the women's National League going to Slough. The top four clubs entered the newly introduced Premiership play off tournament which culminated with men's & women's finals on 3 May. Cannock won the men's Premiership tournament and Slough claimed the women's Premiership tournament. The Men's Hockey Association Cup was won by Reading and the Women's Cup ( AEWHA Cup) was won by Slough. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organized by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Karen Brown (born 9 January 1963) is a former field hockey defender, who was a member of the British squad that won the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Commonwealth Silver medal and European Gold Brown is England and Great Britain's second-highest capped player of all time, with 355 caps to her name. Her record was broken by Kate Richardson-Walsh in February 2016 during a test series with Australia, where Brown was working as Assistant Coach in the GB Team. National Hockey Stadium (Milton Keynes)
The National Hockey Stadium was a sports stadium in Milton Keynes with a nominal capacity of around 4,000 seats: this was temporarily increased to 9,000 between 2003 and 2007. It was used by England Hockey as their national stadium from 1995 to 2003 and then as a professional football stadium by Wimbledon FC, rebranded as Milton Keynes Dons in 2004. In summer 2007, the Dons relocated to the new Stadium MK, near Bletchley, leaving the hockey stadium without a tenant.
