KCHZ (95.7 FM, "95-7 The Vibe"), is a Top 40 (CHR) radio station licensed to Ottawa, Kansas and serving the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Cumulus Media, Inc. outlet operates at 95.7 MHz with an ERP of 98 kW. Its transmitter is located near Linwood, Kansas, and studios are in Overland Park, Kansas. History Early years KCHZ first began broadcasting as KOFO-FM, an FM simulcast for sister station KOFO (1220 AM). The station signed on March 1, 1962. In 1978, the station stopped simulcasting its AM sister station and flipped to a mix of Top 40 and AOR as "96X", with the call letters KKKX. In 1986, the station flipped to easy listening/adult contemporary, branded as "96 HUM", and changed call letters to KHUM. Infinity Broadcasting Corporation was a radio company that existed from 1972 until 2005. It was founded by Michael A. Wiener and Gerald Carrus. It became associated with popular radio personalities like Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony, Don Imus and Mike Francesa. Infinity merged with CBS Corporation in 1997 and later became part of Viacom in 2000, when CBS and Viacom merged, serving as the radio division of CBS. WPBB (98.7 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Holmes Beach, Florida and serving the Tampa Bay media market. It is owned by the Beasley Broadcast Group, and airs a classic rock radio format, branded as "98.7 The Shark." WPBB's studios are on Executive Center Drive in St. Petersburg and the transmitter is off Park Boulevard North in Seminole. History WAYP/WISP/WLLD/WSJT The station signed on the air on December 7, 1989 under the call sign WAYP. The call letters changed to WISP on April 2, 1992. Adult Contemporary
Adult contemporary music (AC) is a form of radio-played popular music, ranging from 1960s vocal and 1970s soft rock music to predominantly ballad-heavy music of the present day, with varying degrees of easy listening, pop, soul, R&B, quiet storm and rock influence. Adult contemporary is generally a continuation of the easy listening and soft rock style that became popular in the 1960s and 1970s with some adjustments that reflect the evolution of pop/rock music. Adult contemporary tends to have lush, soothing and highly polished qualities where emphasis on melody and harmonies is accentuated. It is usually melodic enough to get a listener's attention, and is inoffensive and pleasurable enough to work well as background music. Like most of pop music, its songs tend to be written in a basic format employing a verse–chorus structure. Kemal Amin "Casey" Kasem (April 27, 1932 – June 15, 2014) was an American disc jockey, actor, and radio personality, who created and hosted several radio countdown programs, notably '' American Top 40''. He was the first actor to voice Norville "Shaggy" Rogers in the ''Scooby-Doo'' franchise (1969 to 1997 and 2002 to 2009) and as Dick Grayson/Robin in ''Super Friends'' (1973–1985). Kasem began hosting the original ''American Top 40'' on the weekend of July 4, 1970, and remained there until 1988. He would then spend nine years hosting another countdown titled ''Casey's Top 40'', beginning in January 1989 and ending in February 1998, before returning to revive ''American Top 40'' in 1998.
