The 1998 Western Michigan Broncos football team represented Western Michigan University in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) during the 1998 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their second season under head coach Gary Darnell, the Broncos compiled a 7–4 record (5–3 against MAC opponents), finished in third place in the MAC's West Division, and outscored their opponents, 360 to 312. The team played its home games at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Gary Darnell
Gary Brent Darnell (born October 15, 1948) is a former American football player and coach at the college level. Darnell is native of Arkansas and an alumnus of Oklahoma State University, where he played college football. A long-time defensive coordinator, Darnell was also previously the head coach at Western Michigan University and Tennessee Technological University, as well as the interim head coach at the University of Florida and Texas A&M University. Playing career Darnell attended Oklahoma State University as a personal management major and played as a linebacker for the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team. As a senior in 1969, he earned All- Big Eight Conference honors. Darnell also holds the Big 8 single-game tackle record of 27 tackles against Arkansas in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 and again remained with the Oklahoma State football team as a graduate assistant. Glass Bowl
The Glass Bowl is a stadium in Toledo, Ohio. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the American football team of the University of Toledo Rockets. It is located on the school's Bancroft campus, just south of the banks of the Ottawa River. Known for its blend of old and new, it retains the traditional stonework around the field throughout all its expansions. Dix Stadium
Dix Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kent, Ohio, United States. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the Kent State Golden Flashes football team. Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium is an American football stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. It serves as the home field for the Central Michigan University Chippewas. Central Michigan–Western Michigan Football Rivalry
The Central Michigan–Western Michigan football rivalry is an annual college football game between Central Michigan University (CMU) and Western Michigan University (WMU). The winner receives the Victory Cannon. In its first appearance, it was awarded to CMU at the conclusion of the October 18, 2008, game. Victory Cannon A cannon, which represents the cannons that are fired at both CMU's Kelly/Shorts Stadium and WMU's Waldo Stadium, sits atop the trophy and each of the schools' wins are noted on both sides. Although the trophy was not awarded until 2008, the two teams first played one another in 1907.
