1998 USC Trojans Baseball Team
The 1998 USC Trojans baseball team represented the University of Southern California in the 1998 NCAA Division I baseball season. The team was coached Mike Gillespie (baseball coach), Mike Gillespie in his 12th season. Mike Gillespie (baseball Coach)
Michael James Gillespie (May 7, 1940July 29, 2020) was an American college baseball coach. He served as the head coach at UC Irvine and head coach at USC from 1987 to 2006. He led USC to the 1998 College World Series championship, having previously won it as a player in 1961. Career College Gillespie started his coaching career at the College of the Canyons, a California junior college. He started the school's baseball program in spring 1971 after the school's fall 1969 founding. In sixteen seasons as head coach, he had a 420–167 record. Gillespie posted a 763–471–2 (.618) record as the coach of USC. In addition to the 1998 championship, he led USC to the CWS in 1995, 2000 and 2001, with the 1995 team advancing to the title game. Doug Kingsmore Stadium (known prior to 2003 officially as Beautiful Tiger Field) is a baseball park in the southeastern United States, located in Clemson, South Carolina. It is primarily used for National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA and is the home field of the Clemson Tigers baseball, Clemson Tigers of the List of NCAA Division I baseball programs, Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. College World Series Most Outstanding Player
The College World Series Most Outstanding Player is an award for the best individual performance during the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The recipient of the award is announced at the completion of the College World Series Championship Game. The award is similar to Major League Baseball's World Series Most Valuable Player award. Since 1999, the winner of the award has received a miniature replica of "The Road to Omaha" sculpture, which is situated at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The award measures 16 inches high.
