1998 PBA All-Filipino Cup
The 1998 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Centennial All-Filipino Cup, also known as the 1998 McDonald's-PBA All-Filipino Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the first conference of the 1998 PBA season. It started on February 1 and ended on May 8, 1998. The tournament is an All-Filipino format, which doesn't require an import or a pure-foreign player for each team. PBA On Vintage Sports
The PBA on Vintage Sports was a branding used for presentation of Philippine Basketball Association games produced by Vintage Sports, a sports-oriented media company and was aired on Philippine television networks City2 Television from 1982 to 1984, Maharlika Broadcasting System (later renamed as People's Television Network) from 1985 to 1995, and Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation from 1996 to 1999. History In 1982, the PBA awarded the broadcast rights of its games to Vintage Enterprises, Inc., a company owned by Carlos "Bobong" Velez and signed a P5.4 million deal with the league. Games were aired on City2 Television, with the second game of a doubleheader aired live and the first game followed afterwards on a delayed basis. 1998 Alaska Milkmen Season
The 1998 Alaska Milkmen season was the 13th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Two championships Alaska won two titles in the year and on a quest for another Grandslam. In the All-Filipino Cup, the Milkmen won their first five games of the season. They ended up with the best record in the elimination round with nine wins and two losses. In the semifinals, the San Miguel Beermen overtake Alaska and took the first finals seat. The Milkmen had to beat Sta.Lucia Realtors, 77-69, in their playoff game on April 21 for the right to face San Miguel in the finals. The best-of-seven title series features a duel of two American coaches; Tim Cone and Ron Jacobs. Alaska prevailed over San Miguel in seven games to repeat as champions and regain the All-Filipino crown. Sean Chambers led Alaska to three straight wins in the Commissioners Cup. Cebu Coliseum
The Cebu Coliseum is an indoor arena in Cebu City, Philippines. Its seating capacity is around 5,000. The coliseum hosts various sports events and concerts in Cebu and is the primary venue for CESAFI games. It was also the home of the Cebu Gems of the defunct MBA. On August 4, 1962, one of the first events it hosted was a fight between hometown hero Gabriel "Flash" Elorde and Japanese boxer Terou Kosaka. Alaska Aces (PBA)
The Alaska Aces were a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association since 1986 under the ownership of Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) and the owner of 14 PBA championships, tied with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Magnolia Hotshots for the second-most titles overall. They are one of the most popular teams in the league and the Philippines. The Aces won nine PBA championships in the 1990s, including a rare grand slam (winning three championships in one season) during the 1996 season, joining the Crispa Redmanizers (1976, 1983), San Miguel Beermen (1989), and the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers ( 2013–14) as one of only four franchises to achieve the feat. The Cuneta Astrodome is an indoor arena that is located in Pasay, Philippines. The 1998 Pop Cola 800s season was the ninth season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). 1998 PBA draft Summary After two years and six conferences of non-semifinal appearances, Pop Cola finally made it to the semifinal round in coach Norman Black's first full season with the RFM ballclub. The 800s placed third in the All-Filipino Cup by winning their one-game battle with Sta.Lucia for third place. NBA journeyman Sean Higgins was Pop Cola's import in the Commissioner's Cup, Higgins lasted eight games and was replaced by Marcus Liberty, who led the 800s to three straight wins and an outright semifinals berth.
