1998 NHL Expansion Draft
The 1998 NHL Expansion Draft was an expansion draft held by the National Hockey League (NHL) to fill the roster of the league's expansion team for the 1998–99 season, the Nashville Predators. The draft took place on June 26, 1998, in Buffalo, New York, U.S. Rules The Predators were to select 26 players, one from each of the 26 existing franchises at the time of the draft. First- and second-year pros were exempt from being selected in the draft. Each of the 26 franchises in the league were allowed to protect either one goaltender, five defensemen and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen and seven forwards. Of the unprotected players, each franchise had to include at least one forward and one defenseman who appeared in 40 games in the 1997–98 season. The New York Islanders (colloquially known as the Isles) are a professional ice hockey team based in Elmont, New York. Ron Francis
Ronald Michael Francis Jr. (born March 1, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He is the general manager of the Seattle Kraken that inaugurated its first season in 2021. Drafted fourth overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, Francis played 23 seasons in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Upon retiring from professional ice hockey in 2004, Francis stood second all-time in career assists (1,249), behind only Wayne Gretzky; fifth in career points (1,798); third in games played (1,731); and 27th in career goals (549). Alexandre Daigle
Alexandre Daigle (born February 7, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. A highly touted junior prospect, Daigle was drafted first overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. After recording a modest career high of 51 points in three separate National Hockey League (NHL) regular seasons, Daigle briefly retired from hockey at age 25, but returned to the NHL two years later. Jason Dawe (ice Hockey)
Jason Eric Dawe (born May 29, 1973) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Biography Dawe was born in North York, and grew up in Scarborough. As a youth, Dawe played in the 1987 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Young Nationals minor ice hockey team. Dawe was drafted in the second round, 35th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Dawe played his junior hockey career with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League, where he compiled 337 points in 241 games and was part of the Petes' Memorial Cup finalist in 1993. During the same season, Dawe joined Team Canada for the 1993 World Junior Championships, where he scored six points in seven games on the way to earning a gold medal. Patrik Eliáš (; born 13 April 1976) is a Czech former professional hockey winger who played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New Jersey Devils. Eliáš is the franchise's all-time leader in points, goals and assists, and he holds the franchise records for the most points in a season (96) along with most career game-winning goals (79). Stuart Douglas Barnes (born December 25, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward.
