1998 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 1998 NCAA Division I softball tournament was the seventeenth annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA women's collegiate softball. Held during May 1998, thirty-two Division I college softball teams contested the championship. The tournament featured eight regionals of four teams, each in a double elimination format. The 1998 Women's College World Series was held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from May 21 through May 25 and marked the conclusion of the 1998 NCAA Division I softball season. 1998 Fresno State Bulldogs Softball Team
The 1998 Fresno State Bulldogs softball team represented California State University, Fresno in the 1998 NCAA Division I softball season. The Bulldogs were coached by Margie Wright, who led her thirteenth season. The Bulldogs finished with a record of 52–11. They competed in the Western Athletic Conference, where they finished first with a 28–2 record. Ali Viola (born January 1, 1976) is an American, former collegiate All-American softball player and coach. She played college softball for Nebraska from 1995 to 1998. She owns various records for the school and is one of ten NCAA Division I hitters to accumulate a career .400 batting average with 200 RBIs and 50 home runs. Jennifer Ann Spediacci (born 5 April 1978) is an Italian-American, former collegiate All-American, 2004 Olympian, right-handed batting softball pitcher, originally from Fremont, California. She was a student athlete for the Washington Huskies from 1997-00 in the Pac-12 Conference, competing in four Women's College World Series and holding the school ERA record. Home Run
In baseball, a home run (abbreviated HR) is scored when the ball is hit in such a way that the batter is able to circle the bases and reach home plate safely in one play without any errors being committed by the defensive team. A run batted in (RBI; plural RBIs ) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play). For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate on a higher base to reach home and so score a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI. The Fresno State Bulldogs are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent California State University, Fresno (commonly referred to as Fresno State). The university is a member of NCAA Division I's Mountain West Conference (MW). It was a member of the Western Athletic Conference from 1992 until 2012, when it left for the Mountain West alongside fellow WAC member Nevada.
