1998 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament
The 1998 NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament was the 17th annual tournament hosted by the NCAA to determine the national champion of Division II women's collegiate basketball in the United States. Defending champions North Dakota defeated Emporia State in the championship game, 92–76, to claim the Fighting Sioux's second NCAA Division II national title. This would go on to be the second of three consecutive titles for North Dakota. The championship rounds were contested in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Pine Bluff is the eleventh-largest city in the state of Arkansas and the county seat of Jefferson County. It is the principal city of the Pine Bluff Metropolitan Statistical Area and part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Pine Bluff Combined Statistical Area. The Edinboro Fighting Scots are the athletic teams that represent Pennsylvania Western University Edinboro (known before July 2022 as Edinboro University of Pennsylvania), located in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The MSU Denver Roadrunners are the athletic teams that represent Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Roadrunners participate in 15 intercollegiate sports and compete in the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Hyslop Sports Center is an indoor arena on the campus of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The arena holds 4,500 spectators and opened in 1951. Hyslop Sports Center is named in honor of William Kenneth Hyslop (1885–1981), a 1906 graduate of the University of North Dakota and major benefactor to the university. The Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles women's basketball team represents the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana, United States. The Screaming Eagles currently compete in the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference, having started a transition from Division II on July 1, 2022. Under NCAA rules for reclassifying programs, the Screaming Eagles will not be eligible to compete in the NCAA tournament until the 2026–27 season. The SIU Edwardsville Cougars women's basketball team represents Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in the Ohio Valley Conference of NCAA Division I basketball.
