1998 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship
The 1998 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship (known at that time as 1998 European Championship for Men '22 and Under') was the fourth edition of the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. The city of Trapani, in Italy, hosted the tournament. Yugoslavia won their first title. Igor Rakočević
Igor Rakočević ( sr-cyrl, Игор Ракочевић; born 29 March 1978) is a Serbian professional basketball executive and former player. At a height of 1.94 m (6'4 ") tall, he played at both the point guard and shooting guard positions, but he spent the vast majority of his career playing as a shooting guard. During his playing career, Rakočević was a two-time All-EuroLeague Team member, and a three-time Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy winner. He was also a member of the senior FR Yugoslavian national team, which was eventually renamed the Serbian and Montenegrin national team. With FR Yugoslavia, he won gold medals at both the 2001 FIBA EuroBasket and the 2002 FIBA World Championship. Veselin Petrović (basketball)
Veselin Petrović ( sr-cyr, Веселин Петровић; born 1 July 1977) is a Serbian professional basketball coach and former player. He currently works as an assistant coach for OKK Beograd of the Basketball League of Serbia. Playing career Petrović grew up with the Bosna Sarajevo youth teams. In 1993, he moved to KK Vojvodina, where he played for two seasons. He then moved to FMP Železnik, where he played for 4 years. In 1999, he signed with Partizan Belgrade, where he won three trophies. Later, he played another season with FMP Železnik, and one season with Budućnost. In 2004, he went to Belgium and played one season with Verviers-Pepinster. He then moved to the Belgian club Oostende, where he played until 2014. Trophies won Petrović was a member of the senior men's FR Yugoslavia national basketball team at the EuroBasket 2001, where he won a gold medal. FIBA U20 European Championship
The FIBA U20 European Championship, previously known as the European Championship for Men '22 and Under', is a men's youth basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1992 edition. Through the 2004 edition, it was held biennially, but since 2005 edition, it is held every year. The tournament was originally an Under-22 age tournament, but it is now an Under-20 age tournament. The current champions are Spain. Starting with the 2005 B edition, a Division B tournament, which is the secondary level of the European Under-20 Basketball Championship, is also organized. Since the 2013 B edition, the top three placed teams at each year's Division B tournament are promoted to the next year's Division A Championship. This way, the three bottom teams of the Division A Championship are relegated to the next year's Division B Championship. Ratko Varda ( sr-cyr, Ратко Варда; born May 6, 1979) is a Serbian-Bosnian former basketball player who played professionally for 22 years. Standing at , he played the center position. He first represented FR Yugoslavia/Serbia and Montenegro junior national team, and later represented Bosnia and Herzegovina national basketball team internationally. Professional career Varda came up through Partizan's youth system and made his debut during the 1995–96 season, before making himself eligible for the 2001 NBA draft. He ended up not getting selected but still found himself on the Detroit Pistons roster to the start of the 2001–02 season. Varda ended up spending two seasons in the NBA on the rosters of the Pistons and the Washington Wizards. However, he was officially featured in only 1 game. Currently, since summer 2021, he is an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jovan "Jovo" Stanojević (Cyrillic: Јово Станојевић; born 27 September 1977) is a Serbian former professional basketball player. Professional career Stanojević began his professional career at the age of 16, playing with Vojvodina in the Yugoslav Basketball League.
