The 1998 European Weightlifting Championships were held in Riesa, Germany in April 1998. It was the 77th edition of the European Weightlifting Championships. Pyrros Dimas
Pyrros Dimas ( el, Πύρρος Δήμας; ; born 13 October 1971) is a Greek politician and former weightlifter. He is currently the technical director for USA Weightlifting, having taken that position in June 2017. Dimas has also been involved in politics as a member of the Hellenic Parliament, representing the Panhellenic Socialist Movement from 2012 to 2015. Dimas is the most decorated Greek athlete in the Olympics and is widely considered one of the greatest weightlifters of all time, having been three times Olympic Gold Medalist (in his fourth Olympiad, a knee injury notwithstanding, he won the bronze medal), and three times World Champion. Donka Mincheva
Donka Mincheva (Донка Минчева, born in Karlovo) is a Bulgarian former weightlifter, competing in the 48 kg category and representing Bulgaria at international competitions. She participated at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the 48 kg event. She competed at world championships, most recently at the 2007 World Weightlifting Championships. Mincheva was one of eleven Bulgarian weightlifters to test positive for a banned steroid two months prior to the 2008 Summer Olympics. Bulgaria withdrew its entire weightlifting team from the Olympic competition and Mincheva was banned from competing for four years. Andrey Ivanovich Chemerkin (russian: Андрей Иванович Чемеркин, born 17 February 1972) is a former Russian weightlifter. Ronny Weller
Ronny Weller (born 22 July 1969 in Oelsnitz, Saxony) is a German weightlifter who competed for East Germany and later for Germany. During the 1990s, he was three times world champion, and broke world records 11 times. He participated in the Olympic Games five times, winning four medals. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens he had to retire from the contest due to an injury he suffered during the snatch competition. He is, jointly with fellow (East) German Ingo Steinhöfel, the second weightlifter to compete at five Olympics. The first was Hungarian Imre Földi from 1960-76. Vyacheslav Ivanovskiy (also "Viacheslav"; born August 14, 1975, Russia, Novosibirsk) is a Russian former Olympic weightlifter. Weightlifting career Ivanovskiy won the silver medal at the 1995 Junior European Weightlifting Championships in Beer Sheva, Israel, in the Sub-Heavyweight class (lifting 370.0 kg). He won the bronze medal at the 1996 European Weightlifting Championships, in the Sub-Heavyweight class (lifting 377.5 kg).
