1998 Buffalo Bills Season
The 1998 Buffalo Bills season was the team's 39th season, and 29th in the National Football League. The season marked an important development in the Bills’ history as a quarterback controversy would consume the whole season between Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie. It would also mark the beginning of the Wade Phillips era. The Bills improved on the previous season's output of 6–10, and finished second in the AFC East with a 10–6 record, and would qualify for the playoffs only to lose in the wild card round to the Miami Dolphins. The Bills lost their first three games of the season, all by six points or less, and looked to be headed for a losing season. After a bye in Week Four, quarterback Rob Johnson finally won his first game with Buffalo, holding on for a 26–21 win over San Francisco in Week Five. Mark Brunell
Mark Allen Brunell (born September 17, 1970) is an American football coach and former quarterback who is the quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played in the NFL for nineteen seasons and is best known for his nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, whom he led to the franchise's first playoff appearances between 1996 and 1999. For his accomplishments in Jacksonville, he was inducted to the Pride of the Jaguars in 2013. Brunell played college football at Washington and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. After two seasons, Brunell was traded to the expansion Jaguars for their inaugural 1995 season. Fred Coleman
Fredrick Dewayne Coleman (born January 31, 1975) is a former professional American football wide receiver. He has played in the National Football League, Arena Football League and the XFL. Coleman graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas, and played for the Lee Red Raiders. Coleman was drafted in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Coleman only had two career receptions in the NFL, but one was a vital 46 yard slant play during the New England Patriots' 17–16 comeback win in Week 12 in 2001 against the Jets.
