1997–98 Slovak Cup
The 1997–98 Slovak Cup was the 29th season of Slovakia's annual knock-out cup competition and the fifth since the independence of Slovakia. It began on 29 July 1997 with the matches of preliminary round and ended on 7 June 1998 with the final. The winners of the competition earned a place in the qualifying round of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Slovan Bratislava were the defending champions. FC Spartak Trnava () is a Slovak professional Association football, football club based in Trnava. Historically, it is one of the most successful clubs in the country, having won the Czechoslovak First League five times and the Czechoslovak Cup on four occasions, and reaching the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League, European Cup once and the quarter-final twice. FC Baník Prievidza
FC Baník Prievidza is a Slovak football club, playing in the town of Prievidza. Between 1993 and 2000, Prievidza played in the highest level of Slovak football, the Corgoň liga. Following the 2006–07 season, HFK Prievidza was promoted to the Slovak First League (second level of Slovak football). The club finished in 6th place for the 2007–08 season. Beginning with the 2008–09 season, the club changed its name to FK Mesto Prievidza. In 2009–10, the club withdrew from the Slovak First League. FC DAC 1904 is a Slovak football team, based in Dunajská Streda. In the 2007 to 2008 season, the team were the west group champions of the Slovak Third League. FC Petržalka is a Slovak football club based in Bratislava. The club was founded in 1898 and it promoted twice to the top flight 1. liga in the Czechoslovakia during 1980's (for 1981–82 season and 1984–85 season) and spent another 14 consecutive seasons in the Slovak first league from 1996–97 to 2009–10. FK Dubnica is a Slovak football club, playing in the city of Dubnica nad Váhom. History FK Dubnica was founded in 1926 and spent much of its early years playing in the regional Czechoslovakian leagues until 1977 where they were finally promoted to the national first division and finished a respectable 9th in their first season. The team continued in top flight football for 10 years before being relegated in 1987 and it would be at least another 10 years before the team would play at the highest national level again but this time in the independent state of Slovakia. In 1996 Dubnica gained its promotion from the Slovak second division to form part of a newly structured league consisting of one league and 15 other teams.
