1997–98 Primera División A Season
Primera División A ''(Méxican First A Division)'' is a Mexican football tournament. This season was composed of Invierno (winter) 1997 and Verano (summer) 1998. Pachuca, the Invierno 1997 champion, were able to gain promotion to Primera Division for the 1998-99 season after winning the playoff to Tigrillos, the Verano 1998 champion. Changes for the 1997–98 season *Acapulco was bought by Toluca, the team was relocated to State of Mexico and renamed Atlético Mexiquense. * Atlético Hidalgo relocated to Querétaro and renamed Halcones de Querétaro. *Four new expansion teams: Unión de Curtidores, Chivas Tijuana, Tecos Colima and Cuautitlán. *Pachuca was relegated from Primera División. * Bachilleres, was promoted from Segunda División. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX was the second tier of professional football in Mexico of the Mexican football league system. The champion of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top-flight tier). The bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (the third tier). It was sponsored by BBVA through its Mexican subsidiary BBVA, and was officially known as Ascenso BBVA MX. Formerly known as Primera División A (First Division A) the league rebranded in 2009 its name and competition format to Liga de Ascenso. It was rebranded in 2012 as Ascenso MX. The major changes: clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages. Ascenso MX was replaced by Liga de Expansión MX on April 17, 2020. Chivas Tijuana
Chivas Tijuana, was a Mexican professional football club and former affiliate of Chivas, was based in the city of Tijuana, in the state of Baja California, Mexico. History The club was founded in 1997 and was affiliated with Chivas from the first division. The city of Tijuana wanted to have a professional soccer club after many failed attempts with clubs Inter and Tijuana Stars. The club was acquired after the 1997 tournament when the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol put four franchises for sale, one bought by Tijuana the others by Unión de Curtidores, América, Halcones de Querétaro, Tecos de la UAG, Jaguares Colima. The club counted on 18 players from San Luis Río Colorado, Mexicali, Rosarito, San Diego and a few more who contributed young talent but was relegated to the second division. Club de Fútbol Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, simply known as Tigres UANL or Tigres, is a Mexican professional football club based in San Nicolás de los Garza, a city in the Monterrey metropolitan area, Nuevo León. Atlético San Francisco, (simply known as Brujos) is a Mexican professional Association football, football club. The club plays in the Serie B de México and is based in San Francisco del Rincón, Guanajuato, México. It was established in 1966 and it has never played in the Primera División Profesional. Club de Fútbol La Piedad is a Mexican football club based in La Piedad, Michoacán. The club currently plays in the Liga Premier de Ascenso de Mexico in the Liga Premier. Reboceros was founded in 1951 by football players from "Perros Bravos" neighborhood, most of them were craftsman working with leather and textile.
