1997–98 Meistriliiga
The 1997–98 Meistriliiga was the seventh season of the Meistriliiga, Estonia's premier football league. Flora won their third title. Preliminary round The preliminary round was played in the autumn. The top six teams continued the title play-off in the spring, taking half their points obtained in the preliminary round. The last two teams faced the top four of the Esiliiga in the Meistriliiga transition tournament. Meistriliiga
Meistriliiga (, known as the A. Le Coq Premium Liiga for sponsorship reasons) is the highest division of the Estonian Football Association annual football (soccer), football championship. The league was founded in 1992, and was initially semi-professional with amateur clubs allowed to compete. With the help of solidarity mechanisms, the league is fully professional since the 2020 Meistriliiga, 2020 season. As in most countries with low temperatures in winter time, the season starts in March and ends in November. Meistriliiga consists of ten clubs, all teams play each other four times. After each season the bottom team is relegated and the second last team plays a two-legged play-off for a place in the Meistriliiga. In February 2013, A. Le Coq, an Estonian brewery company, signed a five-year cooperation agreement with the Estonian Football Association, which included Meistriliiga naming rights. FC TVMK Tallinn
FC TVMK is a defunct Estonian football club. TVMK won the Estonian Meistriliiga in 2005. They are also multiple winners of the Estonian Cup. History Name History *TVMK (1951–1991) *TVMV (1992) *Tevalte-Marlekor (1995–1996) *FC Marlekor (1996–1997) *TVMK (1997–2008) Founded in 1951, TVMK played in regional leagues until 1986, when the club eneterd the "Jõgeva III division", winning promotion to the II liiga the same year. TVMK won the Estonian SSR title in 1990 and the league plus cup double the following year, the last title before Estonia regained its independence. The club was renamed TVMV Tallinn for the next season. The following year the club was acquired by the Nikol company and it is generally believed that the history of the original TVMK ended at that point. Indrek Zelinski (born 13 November 1974) is an Estonian football coach and former professional player. Zelinski played as a forward for Sindi Kalju, Tervis Pärnu, Pärnu Kalev, Flora, Lelle, Kuressaare, Lahti, AaB Fodbold, AaB, Landskrona BoIS, Boldklubben Frem, Frem and FC Levadia Tallinn, Levadia. Zelinski made his international debut for the Estonia national football team, Estonia national team in 1994. He made 103 appearances for the team, scoring 27 goals, before retiring in 2010. Zelinski was named Estonian Footballer of the Year in 2001, and won the Estonian Silverball award three times, in 2000, 2003 and 2007. Andres Oper
Andres Oper (born 7 November 1977) is an Estonian football coach and former professional player. He is currently an assistant manager of Estonia national team. Oper played as a forward for Lelle, Flora, Tervis Pärnu, AaB, Torpedo Moscow, Roda JC, Shanghai Shenhua, ADO Den Haag, AEK Larnaca, Nea Salamina and the Estonia national team. With 38 goals in 134 appearances, Oper is Estonia's all-time record goalscorer. Oper was named Estonian Footballer of the Year three times, in 1999, 2002 and 2005, and won the Estonian Silverball award twice, in 2001 and 2005. Early life Oper was born in Tallinn. The 1998 Esiliiga is the eighth season of the Esiliiga, second-highest Estonian league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Final table Promotion playoff JK Eesti Põlevkivi Jõhvi beat KSK Vigri Tallinn 2–0 on aggregate. Eesti Põlevkivi remained in Meistriliiga, Vigri in Esiliiga. Maardu Olümpia
Maardu (german: Maart) is a town and a municipality in Harju County, Estonia. It is part of Tallinn metropolitan area. The town covers an area of 22.76 km² and has a population of 16,170 (as of 1 January 2021). The Port of Muuga, the largest cargo port in Estonia, is partly located in Maardu. Viljandi JK Dokker
Viljandi (, german: Fellin, sv, Fellin) is a town and municipality in southern Estonia with a population of 17,407 in 2019. It is the capital of Viljandi County and is geographically located between two major Estonian cities, Pärnu and Tartu. The 1997–98 Esiliiga is the seventh season of the Esiliiga, second-highest Estonian league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1992. Main tournament Four best teams qualify to the Premier Division promotion play-off, other four to First Division promotion play-off.
