1997–98 Arizona Wildcats Men's Basketball Team
The 1997–98 Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team represented the University of Arizona in the 1997–98 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The head coach was Lute Olson. The team played its home games in the McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona, and was a member of the Pacific-10 Conference. The Wildcats finished the season in first place in the Pacific-10 conference with a 17–1 record. Arizona reached the Elite Eight in the 1998 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, losing to Utah 51-76 and finishing the season with a 30-5 record. Lute Olson
Robert Luther "Lute" Olson (September 22, 1934 – August 27, 2020) was an American basketball coach, who was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball, Arizona Wildcats men's team for 25 years. He was also head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball, Iowa Hawkeyes for nine years and Long Beach State 49ers men's basketball, Long Beach State 49ers for one season. Known for player development and great recruiting, many of his former players have gone on to have impressive careers in the NBA. On October 23, 2008, Olson announced his retirement from coaching. Olson died on August 27, 2020, in Tucson, Arizona. He was 85 years old. Maui Invitational
The Maui Invitational, currently known as the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, is an annual early-season college basketball tournament that takes place Thanksgiving week, normally in Lahaina, Hawaii, at the Lahaina Civic Center on the island of Maui. It is hosted by Chaminade University of Honolulu, an NCAA Division II school. Eight NCAA Division I men's basketball teams are invited to Maui to complete the field. The Maui Invitational has been played since 1984 and is carried by ESPN. Camping World became the title sponsor for the 2020 Tournament only. The Lahaina Civic Center is a sports, convention and entertainment complex located at Ka'a'ahi Street and Honoapi'ilani Highway in Lahaina, Hawaii, on the island of Maui. Boston College Eagles Men's Basketball
The Boston College Eagles are a Division I college basketball program that represents Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, United States. The team has competed in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since 2005, having previously played in the Big East. Jay John
Jay John (born May 29, 1958) is a college basketball coach, most recently an assistant men's basketball coach for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley. He was the former men's basketball head coach of the Oregon State Beavers at Oregon State University. Early life Born in Tucson, Arizona, John's college basketball playing career was as a walk-on player at Northern Arizona University. He also was a walk-on football player at NAU as well. He later transferred and is a 1981 graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in biology. He continued his education at Butler, where he earned a Master of Science degree in 1994. Coaching career John's first coaching position was as a basketball coach at his alma mater, Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona.
