Norwegian Television
Television in Norway was Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, introduced in 1954, but the first television program was only shown in 1958, and regular broadcasts did not start until 1960. Like Denmark, Norway had only one television channel until the 1980s. Some 40% of the population have Cable television, cable TV, and 30% have Satellite television, satellite TV. Another 30% have terrestrial television only. In Norway, all advertising containing political messages and advertising aimed at children are prohibited. Channels such as TV3 (Norway), TV3 are allowed to broadcast commercial breaks, as these channels are being broadcast via satellite from the United Kingdom. Non-Norwegian television programs (as well as portions of Norwegian shows with foreign language dialogue), except for children's programs, are subtitled, not dubbed. Sting (musician)
Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (born 2 October 1951), known as Sting, is an English musician and actor. He was the frontman, songwriter and bassist for new wave rock band The Police from 1977 until their breakup in 1986. He launched a solo career in 1985 and has included elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat in his music. As a solo musician and a member of The Police, Sting has received 17 Grammy Awards: he won Song of the Year for "Every Breath You Take", three Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist in 1994 and Outstanding Contribution in 2002, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and four nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 2019, he received a BMI Award for "Every Breath You Take" becoming the most-played song in radio history. Jan Voigt
Jan Voigt (24 June 1928 – 5 December 1997) was a Norwegian actor, dancer and museum director. Biography He was born in Bærum as a son of Charles Antonius Voigt (1891–1962) and Nathalie Reuter Sande (1896–1986). He became a student at the Centralteatret where he made his stage debut in 1950, and remained there for four years. He was then a freelance actor, mainly at Edderkoppen, Chat Noir and Trøndelag Teater. Films include ''I moralens navn'' (1954), ''På solsiden'' (1956), and ''Elskere'' (1963). From 1963 to 1993, he served as director of Ringve Museum, the national museum of music and musical instruments in Trondheim. Voigt was also a dancer and was also a presenter in the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation television, hosting shows such as ''Firklang'' (1965) and ''Taushet er gull'' (1971). Incumbents * Monarch – Harald V * Prime Minister – Thorbjørn Jagland ( Labour Party) until October 17, Kjell Magne Bondevik (Christian Democratic Party) Events * 18 January – The Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland became the first to complete an unassisted Antarctic solo crossing. * 4 June – Great Nordic Biker War: a car bomb destroyed the Bandidos motorcycle gang's Norwegian chapter headquarters in Drammen, killing Irene Astrid Bekkevold, who was passing by in her car when the bomb went off. The explosion caused widespread material damage in the area, including to the Drammens Is ice cream factory. The bombing had been planned by the Norwegian chapter of the rival Hells Angels motorcycle gang, seven members of which were eventually convicted and sentenced to prison terms from 5 to 16 years. * 15 September – The 1997 Parliamentary election takes place.
