Hurdling
Hurdling is the act of jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle (sometimes known as 'burgles'), landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. Today, the dominant step patterns are the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles. Hurdling is a highly specialized form of obstacle racing, and is part of the sport of athletics. In hurdling events, barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances. Each athlete must pass over the hurdles; passing under or intentionally knocking over hurdles will result in disqualification. Accidental knocking over of hurdles is not cause for disqualification, but the hurdles are weighted to make doing so disadvantageous. Andrew George Tulloch (born 1 April 1967 in Wolverhampton) is a male retired English athlete who specialised in the 110 metres hurdles. Athletics career He represented Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics, as well as three consecutive World Championships, starting in 1993. He represented England in the 110 metres hurdles event, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Jovesa Seuseu "Jojo" Naivalu (born 19 March 1978) is a Fiji-American athlete. In the sport of athletics, Naivalu is the Fiji national record holder in both the 110 metres hurdles and the 400 metres hurdles. Anier Octavio García Ortiz (born March 9, 1976) is a Cuban track and field athlete, winner of the 110 metres hurdles at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Born in Santiago de Cuba, Anier García established his credentials early, by winning the 1995 Pan American Junior Championships. In his early career he won the silver medal at the 1994 Jeux de la Francophonie, the gold medal at the 1995 Universiade, the bronze medal at the 1996 European Indoor Championships and the silver medal at the 1997 Universiade.
