1997 UCLA Bruins Baseball Team
The 1997 UCLA Bruins baseball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 1997 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bruins played their home games at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The team was coached by Gary Adams in his 23rd year at UCLA. The Bruins won the Midwest Regional to advance to the College World Series, where they were eliminated after losses to the Miami (FL) Hurricanes and Mississippi State Bulldogs. Gary Adams (baseball)
Gary Adams (born September 4, 1939) is an American former college baseball coach, the head baseball coach of the UCLA Bruins from 1975–2004. Adams also served as the first head coach at UC Irvine from 1970–1974, winning two Division II national championships there. Adams attended UCLA, where he played baseball from 1959–1962. After his playing career, Adams was an assistant coach at UC Riverside from 1965–1968 before becoming a head coach. Coaching career Adams was named the first head coach of the Division II UC Irvine baseball program prior to the 1970 season. Under Adams, the Anteaters reached the Division II NCAA Tournament in each of the program's first five seasons. In both 1973 and 1974, the team advanced to the College World Series and won the Division II National Championship. Adams replaced Art Reichle as the head coach at UCLA following the 1974 season. Packard Stadium was a college baseball park in the southwestern United States, located in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb just east of Phoenix. It was the home field of the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Pac-12 Conference from 1974 to 2014. Opened in 1974, it was named for William Guthrie Packard, longtime president of Shepard's Citations, made possible by a gift from his children, Guthrie and Peter, who were ASU alumni. Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium was a college baseball park in the southwestern United States, located on the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Prior to 2012, it was the home field of the Arizona Wildcats of the Pac-10 Conference.
