1997 Toppserien
The 1997 season of the ''Toppserien'', the highest women's football (soccer) league in Norway, began on 26 April 1997 and ended on 11 October 1997. 18 games were played with 3 points given for wins and 1 for draws. Number nine and ten were relegated, while two teams from the First Division were promoted through a playoff round. Trondheims/Ørn won the league, losing only one game. Toppserien
The Toppserien is the top level of women's association football in Norway. It was founded in 1984. History Women's league football was introduced on a county basis in 1977. These leagues acted as qualification for the regional (South) league in 1979. Regional leagues were in operation until the formation of the First Division 1984, when the league was divided into three regions, Group Eastern-Norway (''Østlandet''), Group Western-Norway (''Vestlandet''), and Group Mid-Norway (''Trøndelag''). No teams from Northern-Norway (''Nord-Norge'') played, however. The winners of the three groups met each other for a play-off. Regional leagues for women had been played before 1984, and a championship play-off had been done between the winners of Mid-Norway and Eastern-Norway in 1983 (Trondheims-Ørn beat Setskog 2-1), but this championship was considered unofficial by the Football Association of Norway. FK Athene Moss
FK Athene Moss was a Norwegian women's football club from Moss. It is named after Athena in Greek mythology. It was founded in 1996, replacing SK Sprint-Jeløy which was a former successful club from Moss. Athene Moss played in the Toppserien until 2001, when it was relegated. The club was later disbanded, but resurfaced on 1 January 2006, fielding teams on youth level. Athene Moss and SK Rapid fielded a cooperative women-team in 2010, and on 11 February 2011 the two clubs merged to form ''Rapid Athene'', and the old clubs ceased to exist. Byåsen IL
Byåsen Idrettslag is a multi-sport club from Trondheim, Norway. It has sections for association football (one for elite, one for women's and one for grassroots football), athletics, handball (one for elite and one for grassroots handball), orienteering, Nordic skiing, and cycling. General history The club was founded on 30 October 1921, and the three clubs ''Byåsen IL'', ''Byåsen FK'' and ''Byåsen AIL'' later merged. The club colors are red and white. IF Fløya
Idrettsforeningen Fløya is a Norwegian football club from the city of Tromsø. The club was founded on 22 June 1922 and named after the Fløya mountain which overlooks Tromsø centre. The women's team has got two third-place finishes in Toppserien, in 2004 and 2005, as its best ever achievements. On 16 December 2020, the women's team merged with Tromsø IL under the name of TIL 2020. The new name was taken into effect starting from the 2022 season. Brit Sandaune
Brit Sandaune (born 5 June 1972) is a Norwegian footballer and pre-school teacher. She is originally from the rural area of Skatval in the municipality of Stjørdal, Nord-Trøndelag, and is educated in economy and administration. Brit is today settled in Trondheim with her cohabitant Roy Nilsen. Football Brit Sandaune has (per 2001) won six league championships and seven Norwegian national championship (with Trondheims-Ørn SK) in women's soccer. She is an Olympic Gold and Bronze medallist. Margunn Haugenes
Margunn Haugenes (née Humlestøl; born 25 January 1970) is a Norwegian footballer. She became Olympic champion in 2000. She has won silver medals with the Norway national team, in the World Cup and in the European Championships. Career Haugenes debuted for the Norway women's national football team in 1990 at the age of 20, also moving from her lower-division club Kaupanger IL to the Toppserien club Asker SK. In 1994 she moved to Bergen to play for IL Sandviken, winning the Norwegian Cup competition in 1995. In 1996 she moved to Bjørnar, now Arna-Bjørnar, in the same city, contributing to the team's promotion to the Toppserien and ensuring that it became established at the top level.
