The 1997 Skate Canada International was the third event of six in the 1997–98 ISU Champions Series, a senior-level international invitational competition series. It was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on November 6–9. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating
The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating (known as ISU Champions Series from 1995 to 1997) is a series of senior international figure skating competitions organized by the International Skating Union. The invitational series was inaugurated in 1995, incorporating several previously existing events. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of single skating, men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The junior-level equivalent is the ISU Junior Grand Prix. The 1997–98 ISU Champions Series Final was an elite figure skating competition held in Munich, Germany from December 18 through 20, 1997. Medals were awarded in men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The Champions Series Final was the culminating event of the ISU Champions Series, which consisted of Skate America, Skate Canada International, Nations Cup, Trophée Lalique, Cup of Russia, and NHK Trophy competitions. Sven Meyer (figure Skater)
Sven Meyer (15 July 1977 – 6 May 1999) was a German figure skater. He was the 1998 Karl Schäfer Memorial bronze medalist and 1998 German national champion. Career Meyer began skating at age four. During his career, he trained in Berlin and represented Berliner TSC. Viola Striegler coached him for over ten years. Meyer began the 1997–98 season with a 12th-place result at the Karl Schäfer Memorial, an Olympic qualifying event held in October 1997. He then appeared at two Champions Series (Grand Prix) assignments, placing 11th both at the 1997 Nations Cup and 1997 Skate Canada International. After winning gold at the German Championships, ahead of Andrejs Vlascenko, he was sent to two ISU Championships, reaching the free skate at both events. Ravi Walia
Ravi Walia (born April 7, 1973 in New Westminster, British Columbia) is a Canadian figure skating coach and former competitor. He is the 1995 Canadian national bronze medallist and the 1993 Canadian national junior champion, representing the Kerrisdale Figure Skating Club, where he was coached by Dr. Hellmut May. He was later coached by Jan Ullmark and Cynthia Ullmark at The Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton, Alberta. Walia serves as an ISU Technical Specialist for Canada. He has coached several national and international champions and began coaching Kaetlyn Osmond when she was ten years old. Neil Wilson (born 26 June 1978) is a British former competitive figure skater. He is a three-time British national champion in men's singles (1997, 2000, and 2003) and reached the free skate at nine ISU Championships – two World Championships, four European Championships, and three World Junior Championships. Jeffrey Langdon (born August 13, 1975) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time Canadian national medallist and represented Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where he placed 12th. His highest placement at the World Championships was 8th, in 1998. Daniel "Dan" Hollander (born May 9, 1972) is an American figure skater. He is a two-time Vienna Cup champion (1995, 1997) and a two-time U.S. national bronze medalist (1996, 1997). is a Japanese figure skating coach and former competitor. As a single skater, he is a two-time Japanese national champion and represented Japan at the 1998 Winter Olympics, placing 17th.
