1997 Norwegian First Division
The 1997 1. divisjon, Norway's second-tier football league, began play on 20 April 1997 and ended on 12 October 1997. The league was contested by 14 teams, and the top two teams won promotion to Tippeligaen, while the third placed played a promotion-playoff against the 12th-placed team in Tippeligaen to win promotion. The bottom four teams were relegated to the 2. divisjon. Vålerenga and Moss won promotion to Tippeligaen, while Eik-Tønsberg lost the promotion-playoff against Tromsø. Runar, Drøbak/Frogn, Harstad and Sarpsborg was relegated to the 2. divisjon. Vålerenga Fotball
Vålerenga Fotball () is a Norwegian association football club from Oslo and a part of the multi-sport club Vålerengens IF. Founded in 1913, the club is named after the neighbourhood of Vålerenga. Vålerenga's home ground is Intility Arena, located in Valle-Hovin. Vålerenga are five-time league champions and four-time Norwegian Football Cup champions, having last won the league in 2005 Tippeligaen, 2005 and the cup in 2008 Norwegian Football Cup, 2008. History Early days (1913–45) The history of Vålerenga Fotball goes back to ''Fotballpartiet Spark'', which was founded in 1898 by pastor Hans Møller Gasmann. HamKam
Hamarkameratene (literally ''the Hamar Comrades''), often abbreviated to HamKam or Ham-Kam, is a Norwegian football club based in the town of Hamar. The club was founded in 1918, originally under the name Freidig. HamKam were most recently promoted to the Eliteserien in 2021. A third-place finish in 1970 is the highest position that the team has held in the top division; the club has never progressed beyond the semifinals of the Norwegian Cup, last reaching the semifinals in 1989. Briskeby Stadion has been the home ground of Hamarkameratene since 1936. The construction of a completely modernized stadium began in 2007 but has never been completed. Originally scheduled to be completed in 2009, the expanded Briskeby is expected to have a capacity of 10,200 spectators on completion, but currently has a capacity of approximately 8,100. 1997 Tippeligaen
The 1997 Tippeligaen was the 53rd completed season of top division football in Norway. Each team played 26 games with 3 points given for wins and 1 for draws. Number thirteen and fourteen are relegated, number twelve has to play two qualification matches (home and away) against number three in the first division (where number one and two are directly promoted) for the last spot. Bjørn Tore Hansen
Bjørn Tore Hansen (born 7 March 1966) is a Norwegian retired footballer and football administrator. He represented Norway as a youth international and spent his entire career from 1983 to 1992 at Bodø/Glimt. Amassing over 300 first-team games, he finally helped secure promotion from the second tier in 1992. He then became known as Bodø/Glimt's managing director from 1992 to 1997, chairman of the board from 2002 to 2005 and executive director from 2009 to 2017. Bengt Sæternes
Bengt Sæternes (born 1 January 1975) is a Norwegian former professional footballer who played as a centre forward from 1991 until 2011. He began his playing career at local clubs Egersund and Eiger, whilst he had spells at Viking, Odd Grenland, Bodø/Glimt, Club Brugge, Brann, OB, and Vålerenga. Sæternes was capped seven times for Norway. Before the 2012–13 Tercera División, Sæternes joined UD Vecindario as assistant coach on a one-year contract. He rejected offers from Norway in order to "learn everything I can of Spanish football." Club career Bengt Sæternes had short stints in both Viking and Odd Grenland until his career boosted in Bodø/Glimt. Tommy Sylte (born 27 October 1971) is a retired Norwegian football striker. Hailing from Volda, he made his debut for Volda TI in 1988, scoring in his first match. Ahead of the 1991 season he joined Hødd, getting his first-tier debut in 1995. Espen Haug
Espen Haug (born 30 January 30, 1970 in Oslo) is a Norwegian football coach. He is the current youth coach of Strømmen, and previously coached Drøbak/Frogn. In his active career he played for Strømmen, Vålerenga, Lyn, Ham-Kam and Hønefoss. Playing career He won the Norwegian Football Cup with Vålerenga in 1997, and scored one of the goals when Strømsgodset were beaten 4-2. He came to Ham-Kam from Lyn in front of the 2002 season and made his debut against Ørn-Horten 14 April 2002. When Ham-Kam were promoted in 2003, it became the third club Espen Haug earned promotion to Tippeligaen with. Managerial career In the middle of the 2006 season, he went to Hønefoss. Espen Haug was appointed coach in Drøbak/Frogn after the coach and athletic director Håvard Lunde resigned as head coach for the club in 2007 season. In the 1998 2. divisjon, the third highest football league for men in Norway, 22 games were played in 8 groups, with 3 points given for wins and 1 for draws. Liv/Fossekallen, Skjetten, Clausenengen and Lofoten were promoted to the First Division through playoffs against the other 4 group winners.
