1997 Afro-Asian Club Championship
The 1997 Afro-Asian Club Championship, was the 10th Afro-Asian Club Championship competition endorsed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC), contested between the winners of the African Champions' Cup and the Asian Club Championship. The final was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Korean team Pohang Steel the 1996–97 Asian Club Championship winner. and Egyptian team Zamalek, the 1996 African Cup of Champions Clubs winner, The first leg was hosted by Pohang Steel at the Pohang Steel Yard in Pohang on 16 November 1997, while the second leg was hosted by Zamalek at Cairo Stadium in Cairo on 5 December 1997. Aggregate was 2–2, Zamalek won on away goals, became the first (and only) club to win the Championship for 2 times. Afro-Asian Club Championship
The Afro-Asian Club Championship, sometimes referred to as the Afro-Asian Cup, was a football competition endorsed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC), contested between the winners of the African Champions' Cup and the Asian Club Championship, the two continents' top club competitions. The championship was modelled on the Intercontinental Cup (organised by Europe's UEFA and South America's CONMEBOL football federations and now replaced by the FIFA Club World Cup) and ran from 1987 to 1999. History The first two competitions held in 1986 and 1987 were contested over a single match; from 1988 until 1998 the competition was held in a two-legged tie format. The last winners were Moroccan side Raja Casablanca, who defeated South Korean side Pohang Steelers in 1998. The 1994 Afro-Asian Club Championship, was the 7th Afro-Asian Club Championship competition endorsed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC), contested between the winners of the African Champions' Cup and the Asian Club Championship. The final was contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Egyptian team Zamalek, the 1993 African Cup of Champions Clubs winner; and Korean team Pohang Steel, the 1993–94 Asian Club Championship winner. The first leg was hosted by Zamalek at the El Mahalla Stadium in El-Mahalla El-Kubra on 11 September 1994, while the second leg was hosted by Thai Farmers Bank at Kasikorn Bank Stadium in Bangkok on 21 September 1994. Ismail Youssef Awadallah Mohamed ( ar, إسماعيل يوسف; born 28 June 1964 in Giza) is a former Egyptian football player.
