Mansfield Town F
Mansfield is a market town and the administrative centre of Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. It is the largest town in the wider Mansfield Urban Area (followed by Sutton-in-Ashfield). It gained the Royal Charter of a market town in 1227. The town lies in the Maun Valley, north of Nottingham and near Sutton-in-Ashfield. Most of the 109,000 population live in the town itself (including Mansfield Woodhouse), with Warsop as a secondary centre. Mansfield is the one local authority in Nottinghamshire with a publicly elected mayor. History Roman to Mediaeval Period Settlement dates to the Roman period. Major Hayman Rooke in 1787 discovered a villa between Mansfield Woodhouse and Pleasley; a cache of denarii was found near King's Mill in 1849. Carlisle ( , ; from xcb, Caer Luel) is a city that lies within the Northern English county of Cumbria, south of the Scottish border at the confluence of the rivers Eden, Caldew and Petteril. It is the administrative centre of the City of Carlisle district which, (along with Cumbria County Council) will be replaced by Cumberland Council in April 2023. John Walker (born 12 December 1973) is a Scottish former professional footballer, who played as a midfielder. He notably played for Clydebank and Mansfield Town in a career that lasted between 1990 and 2004. Walker started his professional career with Rangers but in three years at Ibrox he only managed three first team appearances. In 1993, he transferred to Clydebank. He then made a move to England in 1995, signing with Grimsby Town. He was brought Blundell Park by Brian Laws as the club's highest paid player; after three years he then joined Mansfield Town following a loan spell at the club. John Doolan (born 7 May 1974) is an English football coach and former player. Club career Doolan began his career as a trainee with the club he supports, Everton in 1992. He was released by Everton and joined Football League Third Division side Mansfield Town on a free transfer in September 1994. He made 151 appearances in all competitions for Mansfield in four seasons, scoring 14 goals, before joining Football League Third Division team Barnet in 1998. He signed for £60,000 and made 199 appearances in all competitions for Barnet, scoring 13 goals, in five seasons during which Barnet were relegated to the Football Conference in May 2001. Steven James Harper (born 3 February 1969) is an English former footballer who scored 54 goals in 504 league games in a 15-year career in the Football League. He was a speedy winger, adept at dribbling the ball. He began his professional career at Port Vale in June 1987, before he was sold to Preston North End for £35,000 in March 1989. He joined Burnley on a free transfer in July 1991, and helped the "Clarets" to win the Fourth Division title in 1991–92. He moved on to Doncaster Rovers in August 1993, before he was sold on to Mansfield Town for a £20,000 fee in September 1995. He took a free transfer to Hull City in July 1999, before joining Darlington in February 2001. He left the Football League in 2002, and moved into non-league football with Kidsgrove Athletic.
