1996–97 Cypriot Third Division
The 1996–97 Cypriot Third Division was the 26th season of the Cypriot third-level football league. Rotsidis Mammari won their 1st title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1996–97 Cypriot Third Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first three teams were promoted to the 1997–98 Cypriot Second Division and the last three teams were relegated to the 1997–98 Cypriot Fourth Division. Point system Teams received three points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss. Cypriot Third Division
The Cypriot Third Division (Greek: Πρωτάθλημα Γ΄ Κατηγορίας) is the third tier football league competition in Cyprus, run by the Cyprus Football Association. Each year, the top finishing teams of the league are promoted to the Cypriot Second Division, and the lowest finishing teams are relegated to the STOK Elite Division. History The Cypriot Third Division was held for the first time in the 1970–71 season as the third level of the Cypriot football. All the teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. This is the league's current format until present time. The only season when the championship not held was during the 1974–75 season. Ethnikos Latsion FC
Ethnikos Latsion ( el, Εθνικός Λατσιών) is a Cypriot association football club based in Latsia, located in the Nicosia District. Its stadium is the Latsia Municipal Stadium and its colours are blue and white. 1996–97 Cypriot First Division
The 1996–97 Cypriot First Division was the 58th season of the Cypriot top-level football league. Anorthosis won their 8th title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1996–97 Cypriot First Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The last three teams were relegated to the 1997–98 Cypriot Second Division. The champions ensured their participation in the 1997–98 UEFA Champions League and the runners-up in the 1997–98 UEFA Cup. The teams had to declare their interest to participate in the 1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup before the end of the championship. At the end of the championship, the higher placed team among the interested ones participated in the Intertoto Cup (if they had not secured their participation in any other UEFA competition). Fotiakos Frenarou
Frenaros ( el, Φρέναρος; ) is a village in the Famagusta District of Cyprus. In 2011, it had a population of 4,298. History Frenaros was named after Lusignan monks called Fremenors, who lived in the nearby Panagia of Hortakion monastery. It has two churches that date back to the 12th century. In 1925, Swedish archeologist Einar Gjerstad uncovered evidence that the village dates back to the Neolithic period. The club was founded in 1952 as Digenis Oroklinis. In the 2014–2015 season the team competed in the Cypriot Second Division for the first time in its history.
