Alejandro De La Sota (architect)
Alejandro de la Sota Martínez (October 20, 1913 - 14 February 1996) was a Spanish architect. He was born in Pontevedra in Galicia. He graduated from the Technical University of Madrid in 1941 and, from 1956 to 1972 he was a professor there. After graduation, de la Sota continued to live in Madrid, although he maintained links with his native Galicia. He was a promoter of the industrialisation of construction in the 1960s. His Maravillas School gymnasium of 1961 was the first steel-framed building in Madrid. Dora's buildings combine geometric rigor with constructive sincerity and a structural boldness of form that still surprises today. De la Sota received the National Prize of Architecture and the Gold Medal of the Council of Architects. Rafael Orozco (pianist)
Rafael Orozco Flores (24 January 194624 April 1996) was a Spanish classical pianist. Orozco is acclaimed as one of the great Spanish concert pianists. Rafael Orozco came from a musical family in Córdoba and studied with José Cubiles, Alexis Weissenberg and Maria Curcio, the last and favourite pupil of Artur Schnabel. His professional career began after he won first prize in the 1966 Leeds International Piano Competition in the UK. His large repertoire included works by Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Manuel de Falla, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Isaac Albéniz. He gave recitals on five continents and participated as soloist with the world's great orchestras, including Cleveland, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Berlin, Vienna, Paris, and London. Orozco also participated in music festivals at Osaka, Praga, Berlin, Santander, Edinburgh, Spoleto, and Aldeburgh. Antonio Ortiz Ramírez (Barcelona, April 13, 1907 – April 2, 1996) was a prominent member of the National Confederation of Labor and the Iberian Anarchist Federation. He dedicated himself to woodworking throughout his life, held various positions of responsibility in the Barcelona Wood Union, belonged to the anarchist group "Nosotros", held the position of commander of the South Ebro Column, he also served an officer in the French Resistance and participated in a botched attack against Franco. Maria Teresa Pelegrí i Marimón (4 March 1907– 18 March 1996) was a Spanish composer. She was born in Barcelona and studied piano as a child. When she married, she gave up her musical activities, but after twenty years renewed her interest. She studied piano with Joan Gibert and Carles Pellicer, counterpoint and fugue with Josep Poch and composition with Josep Soler. Enrique Jordá
Enrique Jordá (March 24, 1911 – March 18, 1996) was a Spanish-American conductor. Born in San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa, Spain), later on he was a naturalized US citizen. After conducting in Madrid, Cape Town and Antwerp, he was music director of the San Francisco Symphony from 1954 to 1963. He made several stereophonic recordings in San Francisco for RCA Victor in 1957 and 1958. He made several highly acclaimed recordings for Decca in the late 1940s and early 1950s of Spanish music with the London Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and Paris Conservatoire Orchestra, including two recordings of Nights in The Gardens of Spain with Clifford Curzon as soloist. Several of these have been reissued on the Dutton label.
